APP. Traversant au GUELIZ + Piscine sur le toit Overview
So I’ve stayed at this apartment in Gueliz a few times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that just gets it right. The location on Rue Ibn Toummert puts you right in the heart of what I’d call the “real” Marrakech – you know, where locals actually hang out and do their shopping, not just the tourist circus around Jemaa el-Fnaa.
What really sold me on this place was the rooftop pool situation. I mean, you’ve got the Atlas Mountains just sitting there in the background while you’re floating around, and the whole city spreads out below you. It’s particularly magical around sunset when the call to prayer echoes across the neighborhood and everything gets this golden glow. The pool isn’t huge – maybe fits 8-10 people comfortably – but it’s clean and the water temperature is perfect. There’s decent seating up there too, so you can actually spend an afternoon just reading and taking dips.
The apartment itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, which I actually prefer. Everything’s modern and clean, the AC works (crucial in summer, trust me), and the kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to cook. I’ve picked up groceries from the Carrefour that’s maybe a 10-minute walk away and made breakfast a few times. The Wi-Fi is solid throughout, which matters if you’re working remotely or just trying to figure out your next day’s plans. One small thing – the shower pressure is excellent, which sounds trivial until you’ve had a few disappointing hotel experiences around Morocco.
What I really appreciate is how the staff treats you like a person, not just another booking. Check-in was smooth, they actually gave me useful recommendations (not just the typical tourist traps), and when I had a minor issue with the TV remote, someone was up within minutes to sort it out. The building itself is quiet – you’re not dealing with slamming doors or paper-thin walls like some places I’ve stayed.
Gueliz is honestly where I’d want to be based anyway. You’ve got the modern conveniences when you need them, but you’re still very much in Marrakech. The medina is close enough for evening wandering, but far enough that you can escape the intensity when you need a breather. There’s this great little café called Café du Livre just a few blocks away where you can grab proper coffee and croissants in the morning, and the restaurant scene around here is fantastic – mix of traditional Moroccan spots and some surprisingly good international options.
The 9.1 rating makes complete sense to me. It’s not trying to be a fancy resort, but it delivers exactly what it promises and then some. If you’re looking for a place that feels authentic but comfortable, with that killer rooftop pool as a bonus, this is it. Just book early if you’re coming during the cooler months – word’s getting out about this place.

Amazing property, clean, brand new, with a rooftop pool. Location is silent yet close to everything. Design and comfort is an important segment of the whole apartment. We really enjoyed to spend our evenings at the balcony.
What could be improved: Sadly we ended our trip quite bad. Our flight was leaving early morning and wanted to be sure to arrive to the airport in time so we asked the property to organize a taxi for us. But the taxi didn’t come and after 30 min desperate waiting and trying to catch another taxi the staff was still asking me to share my location. (??? I mean sorry but what???) And we needed to pay extra 100 dirhams for this, because the taxi itself is only 150. We almost missed our flight and gave us a really uncomfortable situation. In my eyes this is unacceptable. If your property has such high standards your staff must be at least also able to call a taxi, especially if you pay for their extra services…

This was in a perfect location for us as we wanted to be outside of the hustle and bustle of the Medina and Jamma El Fna and it was a fairly easy 20 minute walk in. The apartment has everything you need and is very comfortable – there is also a lovely rooftop with pool and great views. There are supermarkets close by and our accommodation contact Oussama, who was really great, took me to show where they were when we arrived. Organisation and contact with the hotel was fantastic via WhatsApp groups. Finally, if you need to leave your luggage somewhere before you leave, you can do so nearby where the accommodation owners also run a luggage storage business. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this apartment.
What could be improved: NothingExceptional – Demage from Switzerland – 23 December 2024 (10/10)
Modern apartment in walking distance of the Medina – Coralie from United Kingdom – 8 December 2024 (8/10)
This is a good modern apartment with a spacious living area, balconies on 2 sides, and a nice kitchen. The bedroom is modest in size but comfortable, and the shower room is functional. The apartment is very secure, and a shared pool on the roof is a lovely addition. Gueliz is a little out of the centre which makes it a quieter prospect. Rapidly developing with shops geared to a more Western taste makes the area very accessible for visitors like ourselves.
What could be improved: The apartment was clean overall and bedding fresh, but did need a scrub in the shower area.Perfect quiet apartment easy walk to Medina and new shopping areas and close to majorelle gardens – Alan from United Kingdom – 10 November 2024 (10/10)
Location was perfect for both old and new parts of city
