You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Appart Mayar 58 when I first walked up those stairs to the third floor – I mean, apartment hotels can be hit or miss, right? But honestly, this place surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in the Hivernage district, which if you don’t know Marrakech well, is basically where you want to be if you’re after that sweet spot between touristy convenience and actually living like a local for a few days.

The apartment itself feels like staying at a friend’s place – assuming your friend has really good taste and keeps everything spotless. The kitchen actually works (I made coffee every morning, and the stovetop didn’t take forever to heat up like some places), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Rue Ibn el Qadi isn’t one of those streets where scooters are buzzing around until 2 AM. The building’s got that solid, older construction feel, so you’re not hearing every footstep from upstairs. During the day though, you’ve got this nice hum of neighborhood life happening – kids playing in the courtyard across the way, the bread vendor making his rounds. It’s that authentic Marrakech rhythm without the chaos.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: the location is just smart. You’re close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa when you want that full sensory overload experience (about 15 minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the little shops), but you can also duck into the Hivernage café scene when you need proper coffee and WiFi that actually works. There’s a little grocery store maybe two blocks away where the owner – super friendly guy – helped me figure out what spices to buy for my sister back home. And if you’re into the whole spa thing, some of the nicer hammams are right in the neighborhood, so you don’t have to trek across the city feeling like a sweaty tourist. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward waiting around in a lobby while they “prepare your room.” Just met the contact person, got the keys, and boom, you’re settled. I’d definitely come back, especially if I was planning to stay more than just a couple nights. It’s got that homey feel that makes you want to actually cook dinner instead of eating out every single meal.

  It was probably our best accommodation in Morocco. The apartment is spacious, clean, well furnished with all you need. The host has been friendly and helpful, always in touch.
