The Shams Elmadina complex isn’t right in the thick of the medina chaos – it’s along the Route de l’Ourika, which honestly is perfect if you want to experience Marrakech without feeling like you’re living inside a souk 24/7. I mean, you’re still close enough to hear the evening call to prayer echoing across the city, but far enough out that you can actually have a conversation on the little terrace without shouting over scooter horns.

The apartment itself lives up to that “cosy” promise in the name. It’s one of those places where someone clearly thought about how real people actually travel – there’s proper counter space in the kitchen (thank god), and the living area has that lived-in comfort that makes you want to sprawl out with a book after a long day of getting delightfully lost in the souks. The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel room, which can be either perfect or slightly overwhelming depending on what you’re after. I loved having space to spread out my stuff and make actual coffee in the morning, though the Wi-Fi can be a bit temperamental – just so you know if you’re planning to work remotely. The building’s pretty quiet most of the time, which is honestly refreshing after the sensory overload of central Marrakech.

What really won me over was how the location puts you in this sweet spot between authentic local life and tourist accessibility. You’re a quick taxi ride from Jemaa el-Fnaa when you want the full Marrakech experience, but you can also walk to neighborhood cafés where you’ll actually hear Arabic and French more than English. The Route de l’Ourika itself is interesting – it’s the road that eventually leads up into the Atlas Mountains, so there’s always this subtle current of people heading to or coming back from adventures in the hills. Parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the medina, and honestly, the whole area has this relaxed residential vibe that gives you a break from being “tourist in Morocco” mode. The 7.8 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtful and comfortable in ways that matter more than thread counts or marble bathrooms. If you’re the kind of traveler who wants to feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than checking into generic comfort, this place gets it right.

  What could be improved: L'hôte est une personne irresponsable. Après confirmation de la réservation sur Booking, j'ai reçu comme toujours une confirmation par mail. Je suis au niveau genius 3 et j'ai payé à l'avance vu que j'utilise depuis des années cette plateforme et je n'ai jamais eu de soucis soit au Maroc ou à l'international. A mon arrivée au quartier, je contacte l'hôte par whatsapp et elle ne répond pas. Je tente de la contacter via booking, elle me répond quelle est à l' heure de l'hébergement et qu'elle ne peut pas nous recevoir parce que nous n'avons pas indiqué notre heure d'arrivée. Elle m'avait contacté via booking pour nous souhaiter la bienvenue à son hébergement et nous prie d'indiquer l'heure d'arrivée pour éviter tout "désagrément". Ce dernier était effectivement une annulation de la réservation sans nous prévenir. Je n'ai pas l'habitude d'activer les notifications des applications comme booking sur mon téléphone, mais la dame a tout simplement décidé que je le lirai et en plus elle n'a rien indiqué sur son téléphone. La réservation que j'ai reçue de la part de booking indiquait clairement : arrivée entre 13h00 et minuit et "une personne vous y accueillera en toute heure". L'hôte dans ses messages n'a pas hésité à me faire la leçon et n'a pas ménagé d'efforts pour justifier une annulation sur base d'un message non clair de sa part dans la messagerie de booking. Ce qui lui a valu ce long commentaire. En tout cas, je ne fais plus confiance aux propriétaires d'appartements.

  De passage pour 2 nuits, nous avons trouvé cet appartement vaste et confortable, très propre.
  Accueil sympathique en français, bon conseil pour prendre les taxis collectifs qui conduisent à la Médina (5 diram/personne le trajet), De plus nous avons été conseillés pour solutionner des problèmes de téléphone et de banque.

  Super, čisté a klidné místo vzdálené asi 15 minut jízdy autem nebo 75 minut procházky pěšky od hlučného a živého centra Marrahech. V okolí veškeré služby, co člověk potřebuje. Doporučuji pro lidi co chtějí mít klid a komfort…

  Appartement d’exception aux prestations de qualité , parfaitement équipé très cosy très confortable et idéalement situé à quelques minutes en taxi de jmaa El fna . Abdel est d’une incroyable gentillesse et très disponible pour rendre le séjour parfait .Pour connaître très bien Marrakech , cet appartement fait partie des adresses à conserver précieusement et où je me ferai un plaisir de retourner très vite . merci encore pour l’accueil .
