You’re away from the absolute chaos of the medina (thank god), but you can still hear the call to prayer echoing from the nearby mosques in the morning, which – I mean, if you’re coming to Marrakech, that’s part of the experience, right?

What really impressed me was how the owners clearly understand what travelers actually need. The apartment feels genuinely Moroccan without being kitschy about it – there’s beautiful zellige tilework in the bathrooms and these gorgeous carved wooden details, but they’ve also got proper water pressure and reliable wifi. The kitchen is actually functional too, which is rare in vacation rentals (you know how it is, usually there’s like one sad pan and a broken coffee maker). I ended up cooking a few meals there because honestly, sometimes you need a break from tagines, and the local market in Charaf has incredible produce. The vendors there don’t immediately switch to tourist prices when they see you, which tells you something about the neighborhood.

The location is sort of perfect if you want to experience Marrakech without the constant hustle. You’re about a 10-minute taxi ride from Jemaa el-Fnaa – close enough that you can easily get to all the main attractions, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the noise and crowds when you just want to relax. There’s this little café around the corner where locals actually go for their morning coffee, and the owner – well, after a few days he started remembering how I like my mint tea. The building itself is quiet, which was a relief after some of the horror stories I’d heard about paper-thin walls in Marrakech accommodations. I could hear my neighbors occasionally, but it never kept me awake. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re renting a car (the streets are narrow and there’s not really designated spots), but most people are using taxis or the local transport anyway. The whole setup just feels… authentic, I guess? Like you’re getting a real taste of how people live in this part of the city, not some sanitized version designed for tourists.
