So I stumbled across this place while wandering through Gueliz – you know, that part of Marrakech where the French colonial vibe meets modern Morocco – and honestly, I’m still thinking about it months later. The Appartement Riad élégant chic (yeah, it’s a mouthful, but stick with me) sits right on Rue Moulay Ali, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to hear the energy of the ville nouvelle but far enough from Avenue Mohammed V that you won’t have taxis honking at 2 AM. The building itself looks pretty unassuming from the street – I mean, that’s kind of the Marrakech way, right? Everything’s hidden behind these modest facades.

But here’s where it gets interesting. Once you’re inside, it’s like someone took the best parts of a traditional riad and gave it a serious style upgrade. The apartment – and it really does feel more like staying in someone’s gorgeous home than a hotel – has this incredible balance of Moroccan craftsmanship and contemporary comfort that actually works. I’ve seen plenty of places try this and fail spectacularly, but whoever designed this space gets it. The tilework is stunning without being overwhelming, and there’s this natural light that pours in during the morning hours that makes you want to linger over coffee way longer than you planned. Speaking of which, the kitchen setup is legit – I ended up cooking a few meals there because the Marché Central is just a short walk away, and honestly, sometimes you need a break from tagines (I know, I know, sacrilege).

What really sold me though was the location within Gueliz itself. You’re literally surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city – Café 16 is around the corner if you want to people-watch with the locals, and you can walk to the Majorelle Garden in about fifteen minutes if you take the route through the residential streets. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel that’s hard to find in the medina tourist areas, and you’ll actually see Marrakchi families going about their daily routines, kids playing in the small parks, that sort of thing. Parking can be a bit tricky – well, it’s Morocco, so parking is always an adventure – but the host gave me some solid tips about the side streets that actually worked. The whole experience felt refreshingly authentic without sacrificing any comfort, and at a 9 rating, I can see why other travelers are catching on. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Marrakech, not just visiting it.
