The name makes it sound like some tiny studio, but this place is actually a proper apartment with a pool situation that’s way better than most hotels I’ve stayed at in Marrakech. It’s tucked away in Residence le Rubis – and yeah, you’ll need that full address because these residential complexes all look pretty similar from the outside, but once you’re inside, it’s honestly a different world.

The location is interesting because you’re not right in the medina chaos (which, let’s be real, can be exhausting after a few days), but you’re also not stuck way out in the modern suburbs where there’s nothing to do. Jnane Awrad is one of those neighborhoods that feels authentically Moroccan without being touristy – you’ll hear the call to prayer from the nearby mosque, kids playing football in the streets, and the evening chatter from families on their balconies. The apartment itself is on the fourth floor, and I mean, the elevator works fine, but the views from up there are actually pretty nice. You can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, which happens more often than you’d think.

What really makes this place special is how it feels like staying at a friend’s place rather than a hotel. The pool area – and this is key – isn’t crowded because it’s shared with just the other apartments in the building, not hundreds of hotel guests. I spent most afternoons there with a book and honestly felt like I had my own private retreat. The apartment comes with a proper kitchen too, which is clutch because sometimes you just want to make coffee the way you like it or grab some ingredients from the local markets (there’s a good one about ten minutes away on foot) and cook something simple. The WiFi actually works well, parking isn’t a nightmare like it can be in the old city, and the whole check-in process was refreshingly straightforward – no pushy concierge trying to sell you expensive tours.

The 9.3 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. It’s not luxury in the marble-and-gold sense, but it’s comfortable and thoughtfully set up. The air conditioning works properly (crucial in summer), the shower has decent water pressure, and the beds are actually comfortable – details that matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two. Only minor thing is that the building can be a bit echo-y in the mornings when people are heading to work, but honestly, it’s not worse than most city hotels. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between authentic local living and tourist comfort, this place nails it.

  The property was clean and big and is well appointed. The location is close to convenience stores and a variety of restaurants. The pool was not available during our stay (water being replaced) but Issam the owner offered the pool on another resort. He drove us to the resort and picked us up when finished. The property also has Wirelsss internet and Netflix. He also let us borrow the home WiFi SIM card so we can have mobile broadband while out and about around Marrakech.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing really. Except maybe have another set of apartment keys.
