I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Au Riad de la Palmeraie – honestly, the entrance is pretty understated and you might even drive past it if you’re not paying attention. But step inside and it’s like entering this completely different world. The place sits right in the Palmeraie area, which means you’re surrounded by actual palm groves instead of the chaos of the medina (though you’re still close enough to get there in about 15 minutes by taxi). The riad itself has this authentic feel that a lot of the bigger hotels in Marrakech have lost – I mean, the tiles are clearly handmade, there are these gorgeous carved wooden details everywhere, and the central courtyard has this fountain that creates just enough ambient sound to drown out any street noise.

What really got me though was how the staff actually remembers your name after the first day, and they’re genuinely helpful without being pushy. The pool area is where you’ll probably spend most of your time during the afternoon heat – it’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned to catch the breeze, and there are these comfortable daybeds under the palm trees that make you forget you’re in the middle of a bustling city. The rooms are spacious by Moroccan standards, with proper air conditioning (trust me, this matters in summer), and the bathrooms have these beautiful tadelakt walls that feel smooth as silk. I will say the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms – it’s Morocco, after all – but honestly, isn’t that kind of the point of being here?

The breakfast spread is actually impressive, with fresh orange juice that tastes like it was squeezed minutes before you arrived, and they do this amazing take on traditional Moroccan pastries alongside the usual continental options. What I really appreciated was their restaurant’s tagines – they’re not tourist-versions but the real deal, slow-cooked and fragrant with that perfect blend of sweet and savory. The location in Palmeraie means you’re away from the tourist crowds but still connected to everything – the golf courses are right there if that’s your thing, and getting to places like the Majorelle Garden or even the airport is straightforward. Sure, it’s not a flashy 5-star resort, but there’s something genuinely charming about this place that makes you want to extend your stay. The kind of spot where you find yourself lingering over mint tea in the courtyard, watching the light change on the palm fronds, and actually feeling like you’re experiencing Morocco rather than just checking it off a list.

  Au-delà de l’emplacement, qui est extrêmement agréable pour une famille avec des enfants — à seulement 10-15 minutes du centre de Marrakech — la résidence, surveillée et calme, offre un cadre idéal. Les jardins sont magnifiquement entretenus, et plusieurs piscines sont à disposition, chacune avec un maître-nageur.
  
  Le propriétaire est très réactif et nous a donné d’excellents conseils pour nos déplacements à Marrakech. Il est resté disponible à tout moment par message.
  
  Quant à l’appartement, il est conforme aux photos en ligne. La porte d’entrée est sécurisée par un code.
  
  Ce fut un très beau voyage en famille. Je recommande vivement ce logement !

  It’s very comfortable and away from the noise. It’s in a very secured condo of apartments with beautiful gardens. More than plenty of food and drinks in the fridge. Powerful shower and nice bath. Lovely balcony for bbq.
  
  What could be improved: Would be nice to have a dinning table. You probably need a car to live there as there are no restaurants or shops nearby. But it’s not too big a problem.

  Het huis ligt op een compound 8 km buiten het centrum. Je heb dus steeds een taxi nodig. Een enkele rit is 10 euro. Het huis is groot en van alle gemakken voorzien. Wat wel lastig was waren de kakkerlakken die je soms binnen hebt. Bij aankomst lagen er al 3 in de woonkamer dood en er zijn heel veel muggen. Het zwembad is super en de host is prettig in contact.
