Casa del Sol Marrakech Overview

You know what? I’ve walked past Casa del Sol Marrakech about a dozen times before I actually stayed there, and honestly, I was kicking myself for not booking it sooner. This place sits right on Derb Tijani in the heart of the medina, and I mean really in the heart – you’re literally a three-minute walk from the main square, but tucked away enough that you won’t hear the drums and flutes until 2 AM (which, let’s be real, happens sometimes in Marrakech).

The thing about this riad is that it actually feels like someone’s home that happens to have incredible taste. The central courtyard has this gorgeous fountain that creates just enough ambient noise to drown out the neighbor’s rooster – and yes, there’s always a rooster somewhere in the medina. The rooms are spacious for Morocco standards, with those thick walls that keep things surprisingly cool even in July. I stayed in one of the upper-floor rooms and the view from the little window was this perfect slice of the Atlas Mountains in the distance, framed by traditional rooftops and the occasional stork nest. The staff here really knows their stuff too – Ahmed at reception actually drew me a hand-sketched map to find the best mechui place (it’s this tiny spot near Bab Agnaou that tourists never find), and he was spot-on.

What I really appreciated was how they balance that authentic medina experience with actual comfort. The shower has proper water pressure – which sounds trivial until you’ve spent a week in Morocco with disappointing showers – and the wifi reaches every corner, even the rooftop terrace. Speaking of the terrace, it’s where you’ll want to spend your evenings with a mint tea, watching the call to prayer echo across the city as the sun sets behind the Koutoubia minaret. The breakfast spread is solid too, with proper Moroccan bread and local honey, though I’d skip the croissants and stick with the msemen. The only minor thing is that the medina can get pretty lively during festivals – I was there during Mawlid and sleep was… optional. But honestly, that’s part of the charm, and the location means you’re right in the middle of everything when you want to be, with a peaceful retreat when you need it. For the price point and that 8.2 rating, this place delivers exactly what it promises – authentic Marrakech with just enough modern touches to keep you comfortable.

Reviews of Casa del Sol Marrakech

  • Very good – Stephen from Botswana – 14 May 2025 (8/10)

    Good breakfast

  • I want to mention how thoughtful the staff was during my stay – Isabel from Chile – 1 May 2025 (9/10)

    Great location

  • I had a short but pleasant stay. – Malcolm from United Kingdom – 1 March 2025 (8/10)

Very ornate and impressive iron work (eg. railings & front door) and tiling. I got my own key to my room and the 24hr reception let you into the property if you ring the bell. Nice roof terrace with unusual glass roof over atrium.

What could be improved: Shower curtain and bedroom curtains not wide enough. Shower head holder not fixed properly to the wall.

  • Great location, would stay again – Alexis from United States – 28 February 2025 (9/10)

Great location inside the old medina. Everything was clean, good blanket for the cold in winter- and it was coold. Good bed, nice breakfast.

What could be improved: The shared bathroom was 2 floors below the room, so it was annoying to walk down 2 flights of stairs every time to use the bathroom.

  • Would recommend this Riad for value for money – James from United Kingdom – 5 January 2025 (9/10)

Great location for the Jamal, staff really welcoming, informative and helpful. Really interesting views from the rooftop. Breakfast served by Fatima was superb and real bonus having use of kitchens

  • Great value, great staff and wonderful breakfast – Sandra from Canada – 1 December 2024 (9/10)

The staff are very kind and helpful. The breakfast with homemade yogurt and pancake plus other items was delicious. It is quiet and I slept well.

  • Good location for food lovers – Kenneth from United States – 28 November 2024 (8/10)

Very attractive building. It provides a good idea of how the wealthy families used to live in this area. The tile throughout looks very nice. Everyone looked pretty comfy. There are a lot of food establishments around this location.

What could be improved: Can't say that I have anything to complain about

  • Superb – Esther from Germany – 20 November 2024 (9/10)

Loved the location and the warm-hearted staff. Shukran bzeef to Ayoub.

  • Very beautiful Riad , lovely staff and good breakfast – Thamar from Netherlands – 7 November 2024 (8/10)

It was a very beautiful Riad! Comfy and lovely room. delicious breakfast and very sweet staff . Located in the middle of the Medina but still in a quiet small side street

What could be improved: In the night you could hear people talk very loud and even in my private room I could hear people snoring in other rooms . The sound was echoing through the Riad

  • An amazing find the the centre of the Souk – 5 min walk to the main square – Derek from United Kingdom – 11 October 2024 (9/10)

The breakfast each day was prepared and served by the delightful Fatima. A genorous seving of crepes or pancake, bread butter & jam, natural yoghurt, cake and coffee or tea. The breakfast could be taken in either the open plan area of the Riyad or on the pleasant roof terrace.

The two 'boys' on reception were very helpful too
