You know what struck me first about this place? It’s actually tucked away in one of those residential buildings that locals live in – not some touristy complex trying too hard to look “authentic.” I mean, you’re literally on Boulevard Abdelkrim Al Khattabi, which honestly sounds intimidating but it’s just the main drag through Gueliz where actual Marrakchis go about their daily business. The building itself is pretty standard for the area, but once you get inside apartment E7, it’s like someone took a regular Moroccan home and gave it just enough polish for travelers without losing that lived-in feel.

The two bedrooms are honestly more spacious than I expected – and I’ve stayed in plenty of cramped “cozy” places that were anything but. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case), and there’s enough closet space that you won’t be living out of your suitcase the whole time. What I really appreciated was the kitchen setup – it’s not just a mini-fridge and a hot plate situation. You can actually cook here if you want to take a break from tagines, which, let’s be honest, happens after a few days no matter how much you love Moroccan food. The living area has this great natural light during the day, and the windows face away from the street noise, so you’re not dealing with the constant honking that’s just part of Marrakech life.

Here’s the thing about staying in Gueliz that guidebooks don’t always mention – you’re in the new city, so it feels more relaxed than the medina madness, but you’re still close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa when you want that full sensory overload experience. The neighborhood actually has a nice rhythm to it. Mornings are quiet, afternoons get busier with people running errands, and evenings have this pleasant buzz when families are out for walks. There’s a little café downstairs where the owner will remember your order by day three, and honestly, their coffee is better than some of the tourist spots charging twice as much. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’ve got a rental car – street parking is hit or miss, but there’s usually something within a block or two. The 9-star rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days; it’s not flashy luxury, but everything just works the way it should, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re trying to figure out a new city.
