You know what caught me off guard about Chez Fatiha? It’s tucked away in this residential building in Gueliz, which honestly made me second-guess my booking at first – I mean, you’re walking up to what looks like someone’s apartment complex rather than a typical hotel entrance. But that’s actually part of its charm once you settle in. The location is pretty brilliant if you think about it – you’re right in the heart of Marrakech’s modern district, away from the tourist chaos of the medina, but still close enough to walk there in about fifteen minutes when you want that authentic souk experience.

The apartment itself (because that’s really what it is) feels like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place who happens to have excellent taste. The owner clearly knows what works – there’s proper air conditioning that actually keeps up with Marrakech’s heat, which is no small feat in summer, and the kitchen is stocked with real coffee, not those sad instant packets you get at so many places. I loved that there’s a washing machine too, something you don’t always find even in pricier hotels. The WiFi is solid throughout, which matters if you’re trying to upload those Instagram shots from Jardin Majorelle without walking down to the lobby. Speaking of which, being in Gueliz means you’re literally walking distance from all the good stuff – Carré Eden shopping center when you need familiar brands, decent restaurants that aren’t tourist traps, and honestly some of the best coffee shops in the city.

What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night. You’d think being on a main street would mean traffic noise, but the building is set back just enough that you can actually sleep without earplugs – something I definitely couldn’t say about my last stay near Jemaa el-Fnaa. The host responds quickly to messages too, which saved me when I couldn’t figure out the apartment’s buzzer system (there’s a bit of a learning curve there, fair warning). The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you experience it – it’s not trying to be a fancy riad with all the bells and whistles, but it delivers on what matters most: comfort, location, and that feeling like you’re living in Marrakech rather than just visiting it. Plus, and this is key, you can actually get taxis to find the place easily since it’s in Gueliz, unlike some of those medina locations where you’re giving directions via landmark and prayer.
