But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked into Gueliz, which if you’ve never been to Marrakech, is basically the modern part of the city where actual Moroccans live and work (as opposed to the tourist-heavy medina). The building itself is pretty standard for the area – you know, that mid-rise concrete style you see everywhere in newer Marrakech – but once you’re inside, it’s a different story entirely.

The apartments here are genuinely well-thought-out, and I mean that. Someone clearly put effort into making these spaces feel like home rather than just another sterile hotel room. The kitchenettes are actually functional – I’m talking real counter space and appliances that work, not those tiny fridges that barely fit a water bottle. The beds are comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the Wi-Fi is solid, which honestly can be hit-or-miss in Morocco. What really got me though was how quiet it stays at night. Gueliz can get pretty lively, especially near the main drags, but Rue Yougoslavie is residential enough that you’re not dealing with constant traffic noise or late-night café chatter drifting up from the street. The staff speaks decent English and French, and they’re genuinely helpful without being pushy – they’ll point you toward the good local spots if you ask, but they’re not trying to sell you tours every time you walk through the lobby.

Here’s the thing about staying in Gueliz versus the medina – you’re about a 10-minute taxi ride from all the touristy stuff (Jemaa el-Fnaa, the souks, all that), but you’re also walking distance from normal life. There’s a Carrefour nearby for groceries, decent cafés where you can sit without getting hassled, and the whole area just feels more relaxed. I actually ended up extending my stay because it felt like I was living there rather than just visiting. The 8.2 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect (the elevator is a bit cranky, and don’t expect luxury hotel amenities), but for the price point and location, it delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re the type who wants to experience Marrakech without feeling like you’re trapped in a tourist bubble, this place hits that sweet spot between comfort and authenticity.

  What could be improved: Completely different location as shown on booking.com maps. Not worth the price whatsoever. I was expecting to stay exactly where it shows in the map’s picture on booking.com but this is not the case.
  
  It seems like a marketing strategy to me as once the apartment has been fully paid for, it’s even more headache to get a refund and your stranded trying to look for a place in the location you actually wanted so you end up sticking with your booking.
