Dar Al-Famila Hamam & Spa Overview

You know what really gets me about Dar Al-Famila? It’s tucked away on this tiny derb (that’s what they call the narrow alleyways here) in the heart of the medina, and I mean really tucked away – you’ll walk past it twice before you spot the discreet entrance. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. Once you’re inside, it’s like stepping into someone’s beautifully restored family home, which is basically what a riad is supposed to feel like.

The hammam here is absolutely the real deal – not some tourist-friendly spa version, but an actual traditional steam bath that locals would recognize. I spent a good hour getting scrubbed down by one of the attendants, and I’m pretty sure I left half my skin on that marble slab (in the best possible way). The whole experience costs a fraction of what you’d pay at the fancy hotel spas in Gueliz, and it’s infinitely more authentic. The massage oils they use smell like argan and rose, and the scent sort of follows you around for the rest of the day. After the hammam, you can cool off in their little courtyard – there’s this fountain that creates the most peaceful sound, especially in the evening when the call to prayer echoes from nearby mosques.

What I really appreciate is how the staff here actually knows the medina inside and out. When I asked about finding a specific spice vendor, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the main souks – he drew me a little map showing the back routes that avoid the tourist crowds. And speaking of crowds, the location is perfect for that early morning walk when the medina is just waking up and you can actually hear your footsteps on the stones. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa, but far enough away that you won’t hear the late-night drumming and storytelling (though honestly, you might miss it). The rooms are traditional but comfortable – thick walls keep things cool during those brutal afternoon hours, and the beds are actually good, which isn’t always a given in these historic buildings. My only tiny complaint? The Wi-Fi can be spotty, but I mean, you’re in a centuries-old building in the medina – probably not the place to be checking emails anyway. The breakfast they serve on the rooftop terrace is simple but hits the spot, and you get these glimpses of the Atlas Mountains in the distance if you crane your neck just right.

Reviews of Dar Al-Famila Hamam & Spa

  • The Manager, the staff, the rooms, the breakfast serving, the rooftop pool- it was like staying at a luxurious hotel wit – Mariann from Norway – 4 July 2025 (10/10)

We absolutely loved staying here. Absolutely one of the most relaxing riads we’ve ever stayed at in Marrakesh 10/10!

    What could be improved: Nothing!!

  • Definitely will come back again – Ashish from United Kingdom – 27 June 2025 (10/10)

Mustapha provide us with excellent service going above and beyond to make our stay more comfortable

What could be improved: Nice location and excellent service and great hospitality

  • Best accommodation in Marrakech! – Mohammad from United Kingdom – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

The location of the property was perfect for our specific needs as we wanted to be as close to the Zawwiya of Sidi Muhammad Ben Sliman al-Jazuli (RA). The Riad is 43 seconds away and ideally situated. The prooerty has been very recently overhauled and the decor is so elegant whilst they have retained many traditional features.

Having turned up 3 hours early, our host, Mr Nabil kindly offered us a free early checkin. We were graciously welcomed with complimentary traditional Morrocan mint tea and the local pastries which were delicious.

We were amazed by the room we were allocated by Mr Nabil. It was, in our humble opinion, the best room in the Riad. Everything was immaculately arranged and the bathroom was even more impressive. The amenities were carefully selected and put together to make our stay so memorable as well as enjoyable.

In the evening our host was Mr Mustapha who was so charming, friendly and hospitable. In fact, Mr Mustapha made such an impression that we have developed a fantastic rapport and friendship. Very often we would sit down and have a general chat about various aspects of life.

A big shout goes to the ladies who were responsible for cleaning our room and for cooking. Once again they were so accommodating, friendly, always going the extra mile to ensure were happy at all times.

I can’t find the words to recommend Dar Al-Famila Hamam and Spa but one word that resumes our experience is subliminal.

What could be improved: Nothing whatsoever.

  • Just book this one, you will be glad you did! – Aaron from United States – 21 June 2025 (10/10)

That's a long list! Pool was amazing hammam facility I am not familiar with but it was beautiful and amazing it was a perfect authentic Riad and had serious cleanliness and elegance. All details were good, hot water, great shower, all bottled water they served with(eat and drink only here and you can avoid a stomach sickness felt great after the 3 days of eating and drinking here! Morroco tea was fantastic and breakfast was killer.

What could be improved: The bed was very quality, but quite firm which is likely the norm here I think. Not my preference, but I don't think you will get a soft bed anywhere in the country. Good quality though so great for back sleeping and stomach, not the best for side sleeping.

  • Exceptional – Amirah from United States – 21 June 2025 (10/10)

Mustapha and Nabil made my stay feel very welcome and comfortable. They are great for asking about anything local and how to get around Marrakech.

Dar Al-Famila is a cosy riad in the North side of the Medina. It's new elegant and very clean. Ismail was the perfect host who spoiled us since we get inside. The breakfast is good and we also tried the spa having an hour relaxing massage. It was very nice. We strongly recommend this riad as it is very convenient and good restaurants are near by.
