Dar Alif Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first turned down Derb El Kheir – honestly, these narrow alleys in the Mellah can feel pretty overwhelming if you’re not used to them. But Dar Alif completely caught me off guard. It’s tucked away in this quiet corner of the old Jewish quarter, and once you step through that heavy wooden door, it’s like someone hit the mute button on all the street noise outside.
The thing about staying in the Mellah is that you’re actually in one of Marrakech’s most authentic neighborhoods, but tourists rarely venture here. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa, but it feels like a different world entirely. The riad itself has that classic Moroccan courtyard setup – you know, the kind where you can hear the fountain trickling while you’re trying to decide if you want to nap or explore more of the city. The rooms are proper traditional style with those gorgeous tadelakt walls (that’s the polished lime plaster technique they use here), and honestly, the air conditioning works better than half the places I’ve stayed in Morocco. Small victory, but it matters when it’s 40 degrees outside.
What really sets this place apart though is how the staff actually seems to get that travelers want local insights, not just the usual tourist traps. They pointed me toward this tiny bakery about three streets over where locals line up for bread in the morning – the kind of spot I never would’ve found on my own. And parking? Well, forget about driving into the medina anyway, but they’ll sort out a secure spot nearby if you’re renting a car. The whole check-in process was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that endless paperwork some riads put you through. I stayed during shoulder season in March, and the place was busy but not chaotic – I imagine it gets pretty full during the cooler months when everyone’s escaping European winter. One tiny thing – the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise when you’re trying to disconnect. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s the kind of place that handles the basics really well while giving you that authentic Marrakech experience without feeling like you’re roughing it.

Beautiful accommodation with lovely staff – Nazanin from United Kingdom – 7 July 2025 (10/10)
It was an amazing experience. The property is clean, beautiful and has everything you need. The rooftop breakfast was lovely, the staff were amazing and we can’t wait to come back. Thank you to everyone that looked after us and Khadija for being an amazing host. Our rooms were clean, and decorated gorgeously. A good AC and help from the staff whenever need be.
Exceptional – Raizy from United Kingdom – 26 June 2025 (10/10)
Traditional vibes within the city. awesome staff. room was clean. affordable stay.
What could be improved: hard to navigate but its not there fault.Couldn't recommend it more! – Luisa from United Kingdom – 8 June 2025 (9/10)
Firstly Khadija was super lovely and such a great host! She provided us with great recommendations for where to eat, including great experiences. The room was lovely, clean and it had all that was needed. It was quiet in the Riad which was nice as it was very busy and loud around that area. All staff were super welcoming and helped us out with anything we needed. The rooftop was beautiful, it was perfect for tanning and resting, and we had breakfast there which was fab. At all times we felt safe and they had 24 hour staff which was helpful! Couldn't recommend it more!!
Exceptional – Christian from Canada – 14 May 2025 (10/10)

If I went back to Marrakech I will make sure to stay in the same Riad, thank you again.Amazing place – Desiree from United Kingdom – 3 May 2025 (10/10)
Amazing road! Even more amazing hosts! Loved Khadija our big sister.
Beautiful riad in the medina in a quiet location – Robert from Germany – 27 April 2025 (10/10)
Beautiful riad directly in the Medina but tucked away in a quiet side street. Beautifully designed rooms and roof terrace. Very friendly management. Loved it. Highly recommended!
Lovely riad, great value for money – Miriam from United Kingdom – 20 April 2025 (8/10)
Beautiful riad, great roof top and communal area downstairs to enjoy. Nice breakfast – worth paying for it on one of the mornings.
Comfy beds. Great person running it.
Overall fantastic value for money.
It was as good or even better than in the photos.
What could be improved: One of the twin rooms we booked and confirmed via a message had one double bed two friends had to share, there was no alternative available.
The location was ok for us, but it was on a bit run down alleyway and while within Medina it was south and a bit far from some places.Beautiful Riad & excellent value for money. – Campling from United Kingdom – 2 April 2025 (9/10)
Dar Alif is a beautiful Riad. Clean, well appointed and the staff are very welcoming & pleasant. A tranquil oasis. The rooftop garden is a huge bonus too.
Our room was cleaned every day & nothing was too much trouble for the hosts.
The Riad is 10 minutes walk from the Bahia Palace and the souks – you have to walk through the spice souks to get anywhere which is magical.
The Riad is slightly tricky to find – the backstreets of Marrakech are a maze – so we were glad that we’d pre-booked a taxi from the airport via the Riad as a staff member came to collect us from the taxi drop off.
What could be improved: Nothing.Exceptional – Kerry from United Kingdom – 1 April 2025 (10/10)
Khadija, the manager at Dar Alif, made our stay so special. She was so helpful and welcoming, gave us lots of recommendations for things to do and places to eat and booked the hot air balloon ride for us – which was an incredible experience. The Raid itself is beautiful, and our room was gorgeous, lovely to have the rooftop area too. Location is great, walking distance to everything and as two adult females, we did feel quite safe walking home ourselves at night to the Raid.
Value for money – Mary from United Kingdom – 24 March 2025 (8/10)
The room was very clean and the staff were helpful
What could be improved: The beds are very hard.
