Dar Assiya Overview

You know what struck me first about Dar Assiya? The address alone tells you everything – tucked away on Derb Ouali in the Kaat Bennahid quarter, it’s properly hidden in the medina’s maze, which honestly is exactly what you want. I mean, anyone can find the big chain hotels near Jemaa el-Fna, but this place requires you to actually navigate those narrow alleys where the walls are so close you can touch both sides at once. The taxi will drop you at the nearest car-accessible point, and then you’re walking – but that’s part of the charm, really.

The riad itself is one of those places that makes you understand why people fall in love with Marrakech architecture. The moment you step through that heavy wooden door (and I do mean heavy – it’s like entering a fortress), you’re hit with this incredible sense of calm that’s such a stark contrast to the medina’s chaos just outside. The central courtyard follows the classic riad layout, but what actually impressed me was how they’ve maintained the authentic details without making it feel like a museum. The zellige tilework is genuinely beautiful, not the mass-produced stuff you see in some places, and the carved plasterwork has that slightly imperfect, handmade quality that tells you it’s the real deal.

What really sets Dar Assiya apart though – and I think this is why it’s got that 9.5 rating – is how they’ve figured out the balance between authentic and comfortable. The rooms have proper modern bathrooms (thank god, because some riads really test your commitment to authenticity), but they’ve kept the traditional sleeping nooks and those gorgeous carved cedar ceilings. The rooftop terrace gives you those classic medina views without the crowds, and honestly, having breakfast up there while listening to the call to prayer echoing across the city… well, it’s pretty special. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – they’ll give you directions to the good hammam that locals use, not just the tourist traps, and they understand that sometimes you need genuine help navigating back through those twisting derbs, especially after dark when everything looks different. It’s not the biggest place, which means you get actual personal attention rather than being just another booking number. If you’re looking for that authentic medina experience but don’t want to sacrifice comfort, Dar Assiya gets it right.

Reviews of Dar Assiya

  • You are in the right place here. – Darya from Germany – 10 June 2025 (9/10)

Wonderful Riad! Very authentic and made with great taste. The team serves an artisan breakfast, which is freashly made and delicious. We especially enjoyed waking up with the sounds of birds and later on their comany during the breakfast. The whole team was very helpful, gave us loads of recommendations and advices. Special shout out goes to the guy, unfortunately we don't remember the name, who is doing night shifts. Due to our late arrival we reached the city around 2 am, and he still met us and took us and our luggage to the Riad.

  • A stylish oasis with plenty of authentic charm – Sarah from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (10/10)

Stylish and authentic. Staff were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts are traditional and tasty. Good
Location in the heart of The Medina.

What could be improved: No swimming pool

  • Superb – Leelee from Australia – 13 May 2025 (9/10)

    Gorgeous Riad, very well kept.
Quiet from outside noises in the Medina.
    Small and intimate.
    Good food (abundance), great staff.
Very clean, modern but traditional architecture.
    Various spaces to relax.

What could be improved: As with most Riads it can be noisy from other guests, rooms being around a central indoor space, generally a small pool or eating area.

  • Exceptional – Darran from United Kingdom – 9 May 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful and authentic. We had a perfect stay. Amazing hospitality from Mouad, who helped us at every step, and made everything easy. We'll be back.

  • Relaxing and beautiful corner of Marrakech – Silvia from Italy – 25 February 2025 (10/10)

    I loved everything:
    – entourage : extremely polite and always there to help whilst simultaneously remaining discreet and fun
    – riad : the common area was extremely relaxing and breathtaking. When you step into this riad from the Medina you step into a fairytale accompanied by pleasant music
    – room : spacious, clean, cosy – with everything we thought we needed and more. The balcony opens the room to the centre of the riad whilst keeping the experience intimate.
    – breakfast : each day is a new chapter into the culinary experience of Morrocan cuisine

What could be improved: Nothing, would choose it again

  • Authentic, elegant and high end service. – Craig from United Kingdom – 18 February 2025 (10/10)

Location, service, breakfast, accommodation all excellent. The staff went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed. Travelling with a young family we could not of chosen a better place to stay. Communication prior to our stay was also very fast and helpful.

What could be improved: Pool was very cold, this was not explained but not really a problem.
