Dar Charkia Overview
You know what really struck me about Dar Charkia? It’s tucked away on this narrow alley – Derb El Halfaoui – that you’d probably walk past three times before finding it. But honestly, that’s half the charm. Once you’re inside, it feels like you’ve stumbled into someone’s beautifully restored family home, which I guess is sort of the point with these traditional riads.
The location is actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re really in the medina without being completely overwhelmed by tourists. Bab Doukkal is one of those neighborhoods where you’ll see locals going about their daily business – there’s this amazing little bakery about two minutes away where people bring their bread to be baked, and the evening call to prayer echoes differently here than in the busier parts of town. You can walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa in maybe fifteen minutes, but you’re far enough away that you won’t hear the drums and chaos all night long. The staff really knows their stuff too – they’ll give you actual directions instead of just pointing vaguely toward the main square.
What I loved most was how they’ve managed to keep that authentic riad feeling while making everything actually comfortable. The rooms have proper air conditioning (trust me, you’ll need it), and the beds are genuinely good – not just pretty to look at. The traditional tilework is gorgeous, obviously, but they’ve also figured out things like decent water pressure and wifi that actually works. The rooftop terrace becomes this perfect little refuge in the evenings when the medina gets intense, and you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days. I mean, the whole place has this 8.9 rating for a reason – it’s the kind of spot where the details matter and they’ve clearly thought about what travelers actually need. The breakfast situation is solid too, though I’d recommend getting out and exploring the street food scene (the staff will point you toward the good spots that won’t make you sick). One tiny thing – the entrance is super traditional, which means no rolling your giant suitcase right up to your room, but the staff handles all that anyway.

What could be improved: The roof top terrace was very tired looking, the seat coverings needed to be replaced.a beautiful riad in a fantastic location with great hospitality. – Glorija from Italy – 14 April 2025 (9/10)
We had a lovely stay at Dar Charkia. The location of the riad is perfect — tucked away in a calm, quiet street but just a short walk from all the main attractions in the medina. Our room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable, with a large bed that we really appreciated. We also enjoyed relaxing on the terrace, a peaceful spot to unwind.
One small note: the bed sheets weren’t 100% cotton, which made it feel a bit warm at night, but it was manageable. As for breakfast, while everything was fresh and the ladies serving it were incredibly kind and gentle, we would have loved a more generous offering with more Moroccan specialities to truly experience the local flavors.
Overall, a beautiful riad in a fantastic location with great hospitality.Exceptional – Aileen from Germany – 1 April 2025 (10/10)
