DAR CHIBANIA Overview
You know what struck me first about Dar Chibania? It’s actually tucked away on this narrow derb (that’s what they call the little alleyways) where you can barely hear the usual Medina chaos. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of old Marrakech – the Bab Aylan area is proper medina territory – but somehow this place feels like a secret hideaway. When I first walked down Derb Mejate looking for number 24, I almost missed it because the entrance is so understated, which honestly makes finding it feel like discovering some local gem.
The thing about staying here is that you’re getting the real medina experience without the tourist circus. I’ve stayed in riads closer to Jemaa el-Fnaa, and honestly? They’re loud and you spend half your time dodging selfie sticks just to get home. But from Dar Chibania, you can actually wander the souks like a normal person – the spice markets are maybe a five-minute walk, and you’ll hit the leather tanners’ quarter without even trying. The staff here actually know the medina like locals (because, well, they are locals), so when they give you directions, they’re not just pointing you toward the main tourist drags. They’ll tell you which café has the best mint tea at 3 PM or where to find decent street food after the sun goes down.
What really gets me about this place is how it manages to feel authentically Moroccan without making you rough it. The traditional architecture is gorgeous – I’m talking hand-carved cedar, zellige tiles that catch the light just right, and one of those central courtyards that somehow stays cool even when it’s blazing outside. But they’ve also figured out the practical stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The Wi-Fi works (not always a given in these old buildings), the water pressure is solid, and – this might sound silly – but the beds are actually comfortable, not just pretty to look at. I’ve stayed in riads where the traditional furniture looks amazing but your back pays the price, you know? Here, someone clearly thought about what travelers actually need. The 9.2 rating makes total sense when you experience how they’ve balanced authenticity with genuine comfort – it’s not trying to be a five-star resort, but it nails what it’s going for perfectly.

Perfect place to stay.everything was just wonderful – Dana from United States – 14 June 2025 (10/10)
Quiet in the oldest section of the Medina. It felt quite local. The property is huge with many many thoughtfully layed out spaces for relaxing, reading, painting, wine & food. The food was great. Service was lovely & excellent. The staff could not have been better. So friendly and kind. Smiles every where. Chess games, books galore. I’d live there if I wanted to live in Marrakesh. Great place away from the bustle but plenty close to everything you might want to see.
You could get classic Moroccan food for a decent price or just a plain tuna sandwich. Everything was done with care. Our room was spacious and interesting in every way. Loved all the levels, pool & plants and birds. Just everything was wonderful.

Amazing and expansive riad in the medina. The place feels like you have stepped into a palace in a time warp. Very helpful staff, nice quiet location, very relaxing. Lots of hidden rooms and spaces to find some privacy.

The staff were absolutely fantastic and made our stay incredibly comfortable. We loved getting to know everyone that worked there and have such fond memories. The riad itself and rooms are just stunning. There is so much to admire in the architecture, interiors and calm atmosphere.

This is a beautiful riad in a residential area in Marrekech. Lots of beautiful interesting rooms & places to sit and relax. it has a small outdoor pool which is wonderful in the mornings for a dip or end of day. It has terraces and sun-loungers and beautiful plants and flowers , the staff in the riad go above and beyond to make your staff comfortable, a lively breakfast was provided each morning we had dinner waiting for us on our first night of arrival. The owners Isabelle and Pascal were so friendly and made sure everyone was looked after.

What a gem – this Riad is a maze filled with treasures! We loved exploring and were sad we only had a short stay. Plus the staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. Do yourself a favour and stay here!
What could be improved: The coffee was a bit wateryExceptional – Inna from United Kingdom – 23 April 2025 (10/10)
The property is very charming and beautifully designed and furnished. Lots of different rooms all furnished very stylishly. Many terraces to discover. Proper haven after the mayhem outside!
The pool is big which is a bonus on a hot afternoon.
Our room was huge- it slept 5 and had 2 bathrooms and a little courtyard.
What could be improved: Walk to the Center of the medina was long but on a flipside it was easy to get a taxi as it is very close to the outside of the medina.
