Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of riads in Marrakech, and Dar Julia is honestly one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special. It’s tucked away in Diour Jdad – which, if you know the medina at all, is this quieter pocket where you can actually hear yourself think between the call to prayers. The whole riad is basically yours when you book it, just three rooms, and there’s something really nice about not having to share the common areas with a bunch of other tourists taking Instagram photos every five minutes.

The jacuzzi situation is legit, by the way. I mean, after spending a day getting properly lost in the souks (and trust me, you will get lost no matter what Google Maps tells you), sinking into hot water while looking up at the stars is… well, it’s pretty much perfect. The rooms themselves have that authentic Moroccan feel without being too museum-like, you know? There’s actual character here – the kind of worn-in beautiful that you get in buildings that have been lovingly maintained for decades. The staff really knows their stuff too, and they’re not just reciting tourist board scripts. They’ll tell you which hammam is actually worth your time (hint: skip the fancy hotel ones) and where to get the best tagine without paying medina prices.

What really sold me on this place is how it sits in the medina. You’re close enough to Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can walk there in about ten minutes, but you’re far enough away that you won’t be dealing with the drumming until 2 AM. The narrow streets around Dar Julia have this amazing energy during the day – kids playing football, women heading to the local hammam, the bread guy making his rounds – but they quiet down nicely in the evenings. Honestly, that 9.4 rating makes total sense when you experience it. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Marrakech, but everything just works. The WiFi is solid (important if you’re trying to upload all those medina photos), the hot water is reliable, and the breakfast spread they put together is substantial enough that you won’t need lunch until late afternoon. If you’re looking for that authentic medina experience without sacrificing comfort, and you’ve got a small group that wants some privacy, this is your spot.

  Nous avons passé un séjour vraiment magnifique en famille dans ce riad de Gerald et Kaoutar. Dès notre arrivée, nous nous sommes sentis comme à la maison, et non dans un hôtel. L’accueil a été très chaleureux.
  
  Notre fils a été accueilli l’après-midi et a eu droit à un délicieux repas préparé par la gouvernante Fouzia. Gérald est venu nous saluer le lendemain matin, ce qui nous a fait très plaisir.
  
  Je ne peux que recommander vivement cet endroit : le riad est très beau, décoré avec goût et avec de jolis éléments d’artisanat marocain. Les chambres sont petites mais très bien aménagées, il y a un salon agréable au rez-de-chaussée, ainsi qu’une belle terrasse avec jacuzzi au dernier étage.
  
  Le meilleur moment de la journée : le petit-déjeuner préparé sur place par Fouzia, exactement à l’heure qu’il nous convenait. Et le soir, nous avons eu le droit à un dîner préparé par Fouzia et Kaoutar divin sur la terrasse – un tajine de poulet que mes enfants évoquent encore avec des étoiles dans les yeux !
  
  Ils ont aussi facilité notre arrivée en organisant le transfert depuis l’aéroport, ce qui était très apprécié.

  The riad was comfortable, stylish and clean. Lots of common space for big groups to gather together, both in the living room and the rooftop. Friendly and helpful hosts.

  What could be improved: The host is not nice at all. We booked three nights, since our flight got cancelled, 4 of us missed the first night, we didn’t request refund, the third night, we had two more friend joined ( the property was for 6 people), She tried to charge us 20 times more money than the difference price online, our friends ended finding another place nearby, but she still filed a wrong claim to booking.com for additional payment. She is not a reasonable person. I don’t recommend this property to anyone!

  Fantastic home away from home in the city walls, with most attractions within walking distance and a number of places to eat at close by (from restaurants to local food stalls). The freshly made breakfast is excellent.
  
  What could be improved: Only thing was that the beds are hard, and it took a while to get used to the more traditional aspect.

  Dar Julia riad is beautifully decorated and the roof terraces are lovely, with a fantastic view of the mountains, it was amazing to relax in the jacuzzi also. It is a good location, within walking distance of Jardin Majorelle, Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Souks and Jemaa el fna. The hosts Gerald and Kaoutar were very helpful and attentive, providing lots of great information and supported with local taxis too, the breakfast by Fouzia each day was fabulous.
