Dar Les Cigognes Overview
You know what struck me first about Dar Les Cigognes? The fact that it’s tucked away in the Mellah on Rue de Berima, which honestly most tourists never even think to explore. I mean, everyone’s rushing around the main medina, but this little corner of Marrakech has this completely different energy – quieter, more residential, with actual neighbors hanging laundry and kids playing in the narrow streets.
The riad itself is one of those places where you can tell someone actually cares about the details. The traditional architecture is gorgeous (those hand-carved cedar ceilings, the zellige tilework that catches the light just right), but what really got me was how they’ve managed to keep it feeling authentic without sacrificing comfort. The rooms are properly air-conditioned – and trust me, you’ll appreciate that during those sweltering July afternoons when the temperature hits 40°C. The rooftop terrace is where I spent most of my evenings actually, watching the storks (cigognes, get it?) that nest on the nearby buildings. There’s something magical about having mint tea up there while the call to prayer echoes across the city at sunset.
What I loved most was the staff’s approach – they’re not hovering or overly formal, but they know their stuff. Ahmed at reception gave me the best directions to the Saadian Tombs (about a 10-minute walk through some winding alleys that Google Maps definitely won’t help you with), and the breakfast… well, it’s proper Moroccan breakfast with fresh bread from the local baker, not some international buffet nonsense. The location is brilliant too – you’re close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa in maybe 15 minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and hustle. Plus, if you’re driving, parking is actually manageable in this neighborhood, which is saying something for Marrakech. The only tiny thing I’d mention is that the hammam gets booked up pretty quickly, so reserve it when you check in. But honestly, with a 9.2 rating, this place delivers exactly what it promises – that perfect balance of authentic Moroccan hospitality and modern comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find.

Reviews of Dar Les Cigognes
Unforgettable!!! – Jana from Czech Republic – 1 June 2025 (10/10)
I traveled with friends for Easter and it was my first visit to Marrakech. I have never experienced such a kind and warm attitude of the staff. The manager and the other staff treated us like family and arranged everything we needed. The location of the hotel is amazing and the breakfast on the roof top was unforgettable.

Beautiful hospitable helpful hosts . Room was traditional beautiful Moroccan style. Great location in the medina. Very quiet at night.
What could be improved: Be warned that if stairs don’t like you, it has a labyrinthine network of stairs to get to your room

Superb – Ana from Italy – 10 April 2025 (9/10)
Amazing staff, the place is gorgeous. The terrace is great
What could be improved: I found weird that breakfast is not included and you need to pay in the property. The best piece of booking holidays online is not to pay attention to these things.Well run excellent friendly helpful staff – Heather from United Kingdom – 5 April 2025 (9/10)
Location was excellent, breakfast on the beautiful well kept roof terrace great
What could be improved: NilVery good – Deborah from United Kingdom – 29 March 2025 (8/10)
It was enchanting and the staff were welcoming.
What could be improved: Although we were fine with it. Less mobile travelers might struggle with the stairs.Lovely place to stay – Christian from United Kingdom – 26 March 2025 (10/10)
First of all the staff… absolutely brilliant, couldn’t do enough for us… special mention to hayat and hajiba who were outstanding. The location is very good for the palaces and a short walk from the main square. Only down side ( and it’s small beer TBH)… the rooms are very dark and there is no kettle in the room, so you have to ask for tea ( and pay for it) on a morning.
KINDNESS AND CARE – Joyce from United States – 23 March 2025 (10/10)
This world-wide and weary traveler landed at 6am in the morning and went directly to Dar Les Cigognes to drop off luggage with the intention of strolling around Marrakesh until check-in time. Everything you read about this Dar is true: charming, well-located, clean, VERY service oriented with its own restaurant and hammam/spa services and the terrace is magnificent.
But then…I inadvertently dozed off in their serene little courtyard in a cozy cushioned corner. When I woke up there was a pot of mint tea, a tray of cookies, and the staff had covered me with a blanket while I was sleeping. Morrocans are known for their gracious hospitality and Dar Les Cigognes is an outstanding example of customer kindness and care.
