Dar Sohane Overview
You know what struck me first about Dar Sohane? The fact that I actually found it without getting completely lost in the medina’s maze – and trust me, that’s saying something. It’s tucked away on Derb Jamaa in Riad Zitoune Lakdime, which sounds impossibly complicated but is actually one of the easier areas to navigate once you get your bearings. The narrow alley leading to the entrance has this wonderful worn stone that’s been polished smooth by centuries of footsteps, and honestly, walking up to those heavy wooden doors feels like you’re about to discover some well-kept secret.
The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that hits you – partly because you’ve escaped the constant hum of scooters and street vendors, but mostly because the place just has this serene, almost meditative quality. The traditional riad layout means everything opens onto a gorgeous central courtyard, and I mean gorgeous in that authentic way where the tilework isn’t perfect but tells a story. The fountain in the center has this gentle trickling sound that somehow manages to drown out the city noise, even though you’re right in the heart of everything. What really impressed me was how they’ve kept the original architectural details – the carved plasterwork, the cedar wood ceilings – while making sure everything actually works for modern travelers. The rooms have proper air conditioning (essential in summer, trust me), good water pressure, and reliable wifi, which isn’t always a given in these historic buildings.
The staff here actually knows the medina inside and out, which makes a huge difference when you’re trying to figure out whether that restaurant recommendation is worth the trek through three different souks. They’ll draw you little maps that are infinitely more helpful than anything on your phone, and they seem genuinely invested in making sure you don’t just hit the tourist traps. Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa – close enough that you can easily pop back to freshen up between exploring sessions, but far enough that you won’t be dealing with the square’s chaos all night long. The nearby hammams are the real deal too, not the polished tourist versions, and the little café around the corner does this mint tea that’s become part of my daily routine whenever I’m in town. I will say the only minor thing is that the rooms facing the courtyard can get a bit echoey if there are other guests chatting late, but honestly, that’s pretty typical for riads and the trade-off for that beautiful central space is worth it. With a 9.2 rating, it’s clearly not just me who thinks this place gets the balance right between authentic Moroccan charm and actual comfort.

A gorgeous Riad in a very central location. – Brian from Ireland – 27 June 2025 (10/10)
A lovely room in a beautiful and well maintained Riad. We received a warm welcome, with tea and cake. We were there for only one night and would certainly try to stay here again if we ever return. Excellent!!
Wonderful gem in Marrakesh – Miquel from Spain – 29 May 2025 (10/10)

An excellent place to stay at the Medina of Marrakech – Paula from Portugal – 25 April 2025 (10/10)
Very spacious and comfortable room in a nice Riad a short walk away from Jammaa El-Fna.
The breakfast , served at the patio, was delicious and varied.
Both Samir and Abdul were fantastic host, who provided all we asked for.
We recommend it for sure.
What could be improved: The bedside lights could be stronger. Not ideal for reading.Exceptional Hosts and Perfect Location – Nagla from United Kingdom – 22 April 2025 (10/10)
We originally booked for 3 nights but ended up extending our stay for another 2 — that’s how much we enjoyed it! The riad was very clean, safe, and located right in the heart of the old city, within walking distance to everything.
The freshly made breakfast each morning was a highlight, and the hospitality was exceptional. Samer and Abdullah were incredibly welcoming, always ready to help and offer great advice whenever we needed it. They truly went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
Our kids had a great time too, especially enjoying the rooftop where they could relax and soak up the sun.
We would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Marrakesh!
What could be improved: Honestly, we had a wonderful stay and there’s very little to improve. If anything, a small suggestion would be to add an ironing board or ironing facilities for added convenience.Wonderful riad – Mcdonald from Australia – 16 April 2025 (10/10)
Beautiful riad, amazing location and fantastic hospitality and service, would definitely stay again.

What could be improved: NothingWe’d go back in a heartbeat. – Sharon from United States – 6 April 2025 (10/10)
Peaceful and calm, after the hectic square and alleyways. Staff was kind and knowledgeable.
Exceptional – Martin from Czech Republic – 6 March 2025 (10/10)
We spent our last night in Morocco at Dar Sohane after a two-week road trip, and overall, it was a fantastic stay. While it may lack the cozy, family-run feel of some smaller riads, it is still a wonderful and comfortable place to stay.
Our room was the most luxurious we experienced in Morocco—straight out of *One Thousand and One Nights*, complete with a fireplace and even a (non-functional) fountain. The massive canopy bed was incredibly comfortable, making for a truly magical atmosphere.
If there’s one thing that could be improved, it would be the breakfast. For the price, we expected a bit more, as we had better breakfasts in accommodations that cost a fraction of the price. That said, Dar Sohane remains a great choice for a stay in Marrakech!Excellent and comfortable – Guilherme from Brazil – 4 March 2025 (10/10)
Is a nice place, the room and bathroom are typically marroquin, the architecture in general, so clean.
What could be improved: I like everythingAmazing, would come back again ❤️ – Taynara from Switzerland – 27 February 2025 (10/10)
Abdel was very kind and helpful, the place and location are beautiful, we loved the breakfast!!
