Dar Zelda Overview

You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of riads in Marrakech, and Dar Zelda actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. It’s tucked away on Derb Lâakar – honestly, you’ll probably get lost finding it the first time because the medina’s maze of alleys doesn’t exactly follow Google Maps logic. But that’s part of the charm, I guess. The whole Kaat Bennahid area is this quieter pocket of the medina where you can still hear the call to prayer echoing off the walls, but you’re not dealing with the constant hustle of the main souks.

The riad itself feels like someone’s actual home that just happens to have impeccable taste – none of that over-the-top tourist Morocco vibe you get at some places. The courtyard’s got this beautiful zellige tilework (hence the name, I’m assuming) that catches the light differently throughout the day. I mean, I’m not usually the type to sit around admiring architecture, but there’s something about the way the afternoon sun hits those tiles that makes you want to linger over mint tea longer than you planned. The rooms are what you’d expect from a well-run four-star place – comfortable beds, decent bathrooms, traditional touches without feeling like a museum. What I really appreciated was the attention to details that matter: good water pressure, reliable wifi, and air conditioning that actually works (trust me, you’ll want that in summer).

The staff here genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, which isn’t always a given in the medina. They’ll arrange taxis, give you actual useful directions to places, and – this was clutch – they can coordinate with drivers to meet you at specific spots since cars can’t navigate these narrow streets. The breakfast situation is solid too, served in the courtyard when weather permits. I’d recommend eating there early before the day gets too hot, then heading out to explore. You’re walking distance from Jemaa el-Fnaa if you want the full tourist experience, but honestly, some of the best little cafés and workshops are right in this neighborhood. The whole area gets pretty quiet at night, which means you’ll actually sleep well instead of listening to scooters and late-night street vendors until 2 AM. Look, at 9.4 rating, expectations are high, but Dar Zelda delivers on that promise – it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing authentic Marrakech without sacrificing comfort.

Reviews of Dar Zelda

  • We’d absolutely stay here again and won’t forget how special the riad was! – Jennifer from United States – 6 July 2025 (10/10)

The very kind and helpful staff made this charming riad even more beautiful and special. It’s a jewel and quiet retreat from the souks. Very convenient location and the historic decorations and features of the riad are unforgettable!

What could be improved: The WiFi in our room wasn’t the strongest, which made internet research of nearby restaurants, attractions, etc. take a little longer.

  • Very good – Sagar from United Arab Emirates – 1 July 2025 (8/10)

    Everything was perfect.

What could be improved: very slow wifi

  • Most helpful hosts who couldn’t do enough for us – Shonand from United Kingdom – 27 June 2025 (9/10)

Super helpful team, they seemed to be interested in how we spent our time, gave good advice and even used their credit card to pay for one of our trips and accept cash for this. Breakfast was excellent.

What could be improved: Would have been useful to have a fridge in the room as it was very hot when we stayed. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room would have been nice too.

  • Beautiful Riad in a great location, walkable to shops, sites, and restaurants. Great service before and upon arrival, ve – Anderson from United States – 23 June 2025 (10/10)

Central location, beautiful property, great breakfast, helpful suggestions in the area, great service with booking porters and rides.

  • Memorable – Ahmad from Pakistan – 22 June 2025 (10/10)

We spent a couple of days at the facility and had the most amazing experience. The staff was extremely helpful, pleasant and went an extra mile to look after us. The location is excellent and provides you a real feel of what it feels like to live in an old and historical city like Marakach.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Fabulous – Julie from United Kingdom – 20 June 2025 (10/10)

Tranquil, elegant and stunning riad in the heart of the Medina.

What could be improved: We loved it all.

  • A truly memorable stay, warm hospitality, and everything was just right for us – Kai from United Kingdom – 19 June 2025 (9/10)

We had a fantastic stay at Dar Zeldar. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They gave us a really helpful explanation of the area which made it so much easier to find our way around the city.

The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We also had an amazing homemade tagine dinner on the rooftop – a real highlight of our trip. Breakfast was great too, with plenty of tasty options to start the day.

The location is perfect – tucked away just enough to be peaceful, but still only a short walk to the main square and everything you need.

Everyone who worked there was lovely, helpful and always happy to chat or offer advice. We felt really well looked after and would definitely recommend it to any friends visiting Marrakesh. We’d love to come back one day.

What could be improved: Not much it was perfect for us. Just a quick note – you can’t drive right up to the riad, but it’s only a short walk from the nearest drop-off point, and someone will meet you to carry your bags.

  • Exceptional – Wai from Canada – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

The staffs made us feel like home! They did anything they could to make us feel comfortable, literally saved my life by giving me the painkillers when all clothes were closed. The breakfast and dinner is amazing, we also enjoyed the welcome tea and pastry, the best tea I had in Morocco for real.

What could be improved: We love everything except the annoying flies but that’s a common thing in Morocco LOL

  • Local living – Andrew from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (8/10)

The location is fabulous, in the Medina near everything but still in a quiet neighbourhood so the terrace was a lovely spot.

What could be improved: Not a problem for us but some people might want to know that to get there is a short walk through complicated narrow streets. The room was a bit too small for us.

  • Exceptional – Adeline from Italy – 14 May 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful riad and amazing suite with historical decorations. Super helpful staff. Great breakfast and dinners on the rooftop. Great location at the north of the medina. A real treat!

    What could be improved: Nothing
