So I stumbled across Duplex Haut Standing 24 during one of those desperate late-night booking sessions, and honestly? Sometimes the travel gods actually smile on you. This place sits right on Route de Casablanca – which, if you know Marrakech at all, puts you in this sweet spot where you’re not drowning in the medina chaos but you’re not stuck way out in the boring hotel district either.

The first thing that hits you is how quiet it actually is for being on a main road. I mean, you’ll still hear some traffic, but it’s not the constant honking symphony you get closer to Jemaa el-Fnaa. The duplex setup is pretty clever – you get this feeling of having your own little apartment rather than just another hotel room. The guy at reception spoke perfect French and decent English, which was a relief because my Arabic is… well, let’s just say it needs work. Check-in was smooth, though they did ask for a deposit that I wasn’t expecting – nothing crazy, just something to keep in mind.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail that you don’t usually see at this price point. The AC actually works (and trust me, in Marrakech summers, that’s non-negotiable), there’s proper hot water pressure, and the WiFi doesn’t drop every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed. The beds are comfortable – not luxury hotel amazing, but way better than that rock-hard mattress situation you sometimes get. You know what I really appreciated? The kitchenette actually has decent cookware, so if you want to grab some ingredients from the little market on Avenue Mohammed V and cook something up, you’re not stuck with a dull knife and a warped pan.

The location is honestly the star here though. You’re about a 15-minute walk to the main square, which is perfect because you can easily get there for sunset or dinner, but you’re far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and hassle. There’s a decent café literally next door where the locals hang out – great mint tea and the guy makes killer msemen in the mornings. The taxi drivers know exactly where Route de Casablanca is, so you’re not doing that awkward pointing-at-your-phone thing trying to explain where you’re staying.

I stayed here during shoulder season in March, and the rooftop terrace was actually usable – I imagine it gets pretty brutal up there in summer. The view isn’t spectacular or anything, but you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, and there’s something nice about having morning coffee up there before the city really wakes up. The staff cleans daily and they’re not intrusive about it, which I appreciated.

Look, this isn’t going to be the most Instagram-worthy place you’ve ever stayed, but it’s solid, comfortable, and the 8.1 rating makes sense. If you want authentic Marrakech atmosphere without paying resort prices or dealing with riad quirks (beautiful but sometimes impractical), this hits that middle ground really well. Just bring earplugs if you’re a super light sleeper – the call to prayer from the nearby mosque is beautiful, but it’s also at 5 AM.

  What could be improved: Dès notre arrivée, rien ne s’est passé comme prévu. Pour commencer, l’adresse indiquée sur Booking n’était pas la bonne, ce qui nous a fait tourner en rond pendant un long moment avec nos bagages. Une fois sur place, la déception s’est confirmée.
  
  Pas de papier toilette, pas d’eau potable, une seule serviette pour deux personnes… Ce n’est que la veille au soir de notre départ que le propriétaire nous a finalement apporté quelques serviettes et trois rouleaux de papier toilette. Autant dire que c’était bien trop tard, puisque nous partions dans la nuit.
  
  Rien n’était prêt pour accueillir des voyageurs. Aucun gel douche, aucune bouteille d’eau, pas de draps sur les lits. Les escaliers à l’intérieur sont extrêmement dangereux et non sécurisés.
  
  Quant à la piscine, elle ne correspond absolument pas aux photos de l’annonce : encore un bel exemple de publicité mensongère.
  
  C’est une gestion totalement amateur et un manque de professionnalisme flagrant. Nous déconseillons fortement ce logement à toute personne souhaitant passer un séjour serein à Marrakech.
