Duplex Riad Abjaou Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow derb to reach Duplex Riad Abjaou feels like you’re being let in on a local secret — and honestly, that’s exactly what this place is. The traditional riad sits tucked away in the Berrima neighborhood, where the maze of alleyways keeps most tourists at bay. You know what struck me first? How quiet it gets once you step inside from the bustling medina streets. The duplex layout is actually pretty clever, giving you that authentic riad courtyard feel while offering more space than your typical medina accommodation.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying in Berrima — you’re right in the heart of the medina without dealing with the chaos of the main tourist drags. I mean, couples seem to really get this (they rate the location 8.2, which makes total sense). You can walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa in about ten minutes, but when you want to escape the madness, you’re tucked away in these residential streets where locals actually live. The fact that there’s private parking on-site is honestly a game-changer if you’re driving — finding parking in the medina is usually a nightmare.
The Riad Experience
What I love about Duplex Riad Abjaou is how it manages to feel authentically Moroccan without trying too hard. The traditional architecture is all there — the central courtyard, the carved plasterwork, those gorgeous zellige tiles — but it doesn’t feel like a museum. The duplex setup means you get separate living areas, which is perfect if you’re traveling with friends or want some space to spread out. The rooms have that cool, thick-walled medina vibe that keeps things comfortable even when Marrakech gets scorching hot.
Getting Around
Being in what’s considered the top-rated area in Marrakesh means you’re positioned perfectly for exploring. The souks are literally on your doorstep, but you can also easily reach the newer parts of the city when you need a break from the medina intensity. I found myself using the riad as a base to duck back to throughout the day — grab a mint tea in the courtyard, cool off, then head back out. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, so they’re great for those “where do locals actually eat” kind of questions.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to be the fanciest place you’ve ever stayed, but that’s sort of the point. Duplex Riad Abjaou gives you that genuine medina living experience without the tourist markup you’ll find closer to the main squares. The 7.9 rating reflects what you actually get — solid, authentic accommodation in a fantastic location with thoughtful touches like that private parking. If you want to feel like you’re staying in a real Marrakech neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble, this is your spot. Plus, there’s something really satisfying about navigating those derb alleyways and knowing you’ve found your own little corner of the medina.

Really close to the medina and the staff welcomed us with tea and cookies. So kind! They let us leave the bags earlier than the check in time and offered us information on how to get around Marrakech.
