Gate 3 Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Gate 3? It’s tucked away in this residential complex that honestly feels more like you’re staying at a friend’s really nice apartment than a traditional hotel – and I mean that in the best possible way. The address might look intimidating with all those building numbers and residence names, but once you figure out it’s in the Jnane Awrad area, everything clicks. It’s actually this quiet pocket of Marrakech where you can still hear the call to prayer echoing across the neighborhood in the morning, but you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of scooters and street vendors that can drive you crazy in the medina.
The whole setup is pretty clever – they’ve converted these apartments in L’agate 3 residence into proper hotel rooms, so you get way more space than you’d expect for the price. I’m talking actual living areas, not just a bed crammed next to a tiny desk. The apartment I stayed in (number 6 on the first floor) had this great natural light that poured in during the afternoon, and honestly, the AC worked better than some five-star places I’ve been to in Morocco. What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night – you’re in a residential building, so people actually respect quiet hours, unlike some of the riads in the old city where you might have party groups stumbling around until 3 AM.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they get there: you’re about a 15-minute taxi ride from Jemaa el-Fnaa, which sounds far but is actually perfect. Close enough that you can easily get to all the main attractions, but far enough that you can decompress without the sensory overload. The neighborhood has this authentic feel – there’s a little café around the corner where locals actually hang out, and a small grocery store that stays open late if you need water or snacks. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which anyone who’s driven in Marrakech will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The staff clearly knows the area well and can point you toward the good hammams and restaurants that tourists usually miss. I mean, you’re not going to accidentally stumble upon hidden gems from here, but that’s kind of the point – it’s a proper base where you can plan your adventures and then actually relax when you get back.
