Grand Mogador Menara & Spa Overview

So I’ve stayed at the Grand Mogador Menara a few times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. First impression walking in – you’re hit with this massive lobby that feels very “grand hotel in Morocco,” complete with traditional tilework and those intricate geometric patterns everywhere. It’s definitely trying to impress, and mostly succeeds, though it can feel a bit overwhelming if you’re jet-lagged.

The location on Avenue Mohamed VI is actually pretty smart – you’re right in Hivernage, which means you can walk to the newer part of Marrakech easily, but you’re also just a quick taxi ride (or about 20 minutes on foot if you don’t mind the heat) to Jemaa el-Fnaa and the medina. What I really appreciate is that it’s set back from the main road enough that you don’t get that constant traffic noise, but close enough that getting an Uber or taxi is never a problem. The spa is legitimately good too – I mean, it’s not revolutionary, but after a day of haggling in the souks, that hammam treatment actually works wonders. The pool area gets pretty crowded during European vacation times (basically any school holiday), but if you go early morning or late afternoon, it’s quite peaceful.

Here’s the thing though – this place sits right at that 7.5 rating for a reason. The service is… inconsistent. Some staff members are absolutely wonderful and know exactly what they’re doing, while others seem like they’re still figuring things out. The rooms are comfortable enough, though some of the “upgraded” ones face the parking area (ask for garden view when you book, trust me). The breakfast is actually pretty decent with a good mix of Moroccan and international options, and they make fresh msemen if you ask nicely. You know what surprised me? The air conditioning works really well, which in Marrakech summer heat is basically non-negotiable. Parking is free and secure, which is honestly a bigger deal than it sounds – trying to park anywhere near the medina is a nightmare. The WiFi is solid throughout the property, and there are plenty of quiet corners if you need to work or just escape the poolside scene. It’s not the most luxurious five-star you’ll ever stay at, but it delivers on the basics and gives you that Morocco experience without being too touristy about it.

Reviews of Grand Mogador Menara & Spa

  • Traditional hotel with good location – M'hamed from United Kingdom – 1 July 2025 (7/10)

What could be improved: The Air Conditioning didn’t work properly

  • Excellent – Brenda from Kenya – 9 June 2025 (7/10)

Excellent pool, food, ambiance, decor and location. Safe and comfortable for a lone female traveler.

What could be improved: I requested for a room with a view of the pool, and was told I had been given one, only to get to the room and find it was facing the street. It would have been appropriate to let me know there was no room available with a view of the pool. I reported my fridge not working on day 1 and was promised it would be checked – it was never checked or fixed after 6 nights.

  • Friendly staff, comfy room and a delicious breakfast! – Matthew from United Kingdom – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

A very affordable 5 star option which didn't disappoint! After a long trip we had this earmarked as our final night of relaxation – The staff are very friendly and were quick to accomodate our early check in and no extra cost so that we could drop our bags and leave for an excursion. We even got a room upgrade, although I suspect this is subject to availability. The room itself was large with a balcony overlooking the main road out the front, which when lit up at night can easily be mistaken for the strip in Vegas! The beds were sooo comfy and breakfast the next morning had so many options. Even went for a little swim post-checkout before our taxi to the airport. Brilliant!

What could be improved: Only thing I would note is you really are in the heart of Marrakech's nightlife and next to a busy road, so be prepared for external noise – but you quickly get used to this.

  • Vintage hotel in good location – M'hamed from United Kingdom – 1 June 2025 (7/10)

    Great location

What could be improved: Slightly dated but comfortable

  • Staff were amazing as I lost my passport and the provided their driver to ferry me around between visits to the police s – Christine from United Kingdom – 25 May 2025 (8/10)

Large, spacious rooms. Hotel location perfect about a 15 minute walk from Marrakesh railway station.

What could be improved: Had to walk around to find restaurant with a bar that served wine but appreciate that hotel doesn’t serve alcohol.

  • Initial hiccups all solved by good manager. – Leo from United Kingdom – 9 May 2025 (8/10)

We had only an issue with the room and the reception staff person supposed to help wasn’t super helpful. Then the manager Hassan stepped in and solved it all. 5 stars for Hassan and the cleaners, restaurant, pool and waiters, and the bell boys.

What could be improved: Reception staff could be more helpful and attentive. You get to a hotel from a long trip so don’t want to be waiting for long watching the receptionist ignore you for 5min while he staples some paperwork…

  • Superb – Fatima from Nigeria – 6 May 2025 (9/10)

    Food

  • Perfect location, value for money – Geraldine from United Kingdom – 29 April 2025 (9/10)

Fluffy pillows, neat environment, proximity to airport

  • Excellent location with updated rooms and great breakfast – Sarah from United States – 20 April 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location. On one of the busiest roads in the city with direct access to the airport and the medina.
Very comfortable room, designed to European hotel standards. In-room fridge, hairdryer, toiletries, etc. Air conditioning is quiet and very efficient.
Hotel staff are efficient and professional. Breakfast is a "Moroccan Buffet" with extensive local Moroccan, European and American breakfast options and prepared to order omelets & waffles.

What could be improved: Noisy due to location (on a major road with hotel construction nearby) – I'm from a city so I don't notice traffic noise, but it may be problematic for some people.
Hallways were not updated when the rooms were (recently!) and smell slightly musty and are dimly lit.

  • Great hotel, lovely staff, the best breakfast ever. – Maria from Ireland – 19 April 2025 (9/10)

    Great breakfast

What could be improved: The riads are more authentic Moroccan style and central but this hotel is 30min walk to centre with good taxi availability and great facilities.
