La Maison Arabe Hotel, Spa & Cooking Workshops Overview

You know what hit me first about La Maison Arabe? The smell. I mean, you walk through that heavy wooden door on Derb Essehb and suddenly you’re wrapped in this mix of orange blossom and cedar that just… works. It’s tucked away in one of those narrow alleys off Bab Doukkala that you’d probably walk past three times before finding – honestly, I did exactly that on my first visit, even with GPS.

The thing about this place is it actually feels like staying in someone’s incredibly well-appointed riad, not a hotel trying to look like one. The staff remembers your name after one conversation, and the way they serve mint tea in the central courtyard makes you want to cancel all your sightseeing plans and just sit there all afternoon. Which, by the way, is totally doable because the courtyard stays surprisingly cool even when Marrakech is doing its full desert heat thing. The cooking workshops are where this place really shines though – I’ve done the tagine class twice now, and Chef Moha will patiently explain why your onions aren’t caramelizing properly while somehow making you feel like a culinary genius at the same time. Plus you get to eat everything afterward, which beats hotel breakfast by miles.

Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa if you know the shortcuts through the souks, maybe fifteen if you’re still figuring out the maze (and let’s be honest, we all get lost in there). The hammam here is the real deal – not some spa version for tourists, but proper marble slabs and that slightly intimidating attendant who’ll scrub layers of skin you didn’t know you had. Fair warning though: the rooms facing the street can get a bit noisy during call to prayer, but honestly, after a day of wandering around the medina, you’ll be tired enough that it won’t matter. The rooftop restaurant has this view of the Atlas Mountains that looks almost fake at sunset, and their pastilla is better than most places in the medina – I actually asked them for the recipe and they just smiled and said “family secret.” The spa treatments use argan oil that’s obviously local, not the tourist-grade stuff you find in the souks, and booking ahead is essential because word has definitely gotten out about this place. At 9.1 rating, it’s earned every point honestly.

  • Amazing stay and I’d stay again in a heartbeat! – Saadeh from United States – 4 July 2025 (10/10)

The service!! The staff. The cleanliness of the hotel and rooms. The buffet breakfast. The location!

What could be improved: I liked everything.

  • Perfection! – Victoria from United Kingdom – 27 June 2025 (10/10)

The hotel was perfection, we enjoyed every aspect of our stay and will definitely return. All meal options were lovely, alongside great drinks selections, including nice Moroccan wines.
The location of the hotel is ideal to explore, either on foot or by taxi. The hotel were happy to arrange any transport as we needed it. The country club is well worth a visit to relax and enjoy the sun.

What could be improved: There is nothing the hotel needs to improve on.

  • Great value for solo traveler since small singles rooms are available for affordable place. I’d definitely stay here ag – Stephen from United States – 27 June 2025 (9/10)

Beautifully decorated. Loved the pool, restaurant, little jazz club. The staff are phenomenal all across the board. Warm and immensely helpful

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Best stay in Marrakech! – Sarah from United States – 15 June 2025 (10/10)

La maison arabe never disappoints. The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. The ryad is gorgeous, the food at the restaurant is the best in Marrakech. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have a typical Moroccan architecture! We will definitely come back.

What could be improved: Everything was perfect.

  • Another fantastic stay at Maison Arabe – Corinne from Switzerland – 14 June 2025 (10/10)

Excellent stay – just like every time i have visited La Maison Arabe before i was welcomed like family on arrival and had a fantastic stay. By the temperatures of until to 40degrees in June the COUNTRY CLUB offer (free shuttle from Hotel every hour) and the excellent hosts there (Mohamed) where a definetly highly appreciated bonus!
The only suggestion suggestion i have is fresh milk for the coffee and Tea making in the rooms

  • Very relaxing and great authentic Moroccan atmosphere – Marine from United States – 13 June 2025 (9/10)

    Everything

What could be improved: Lack of lounge chairs around the pool

  • From the moment we walked down the small intimate pathway to MAL I knew it was going to be special. The service is impec – Catherine from United Kingdom – 11 June 2025 (9/10)

    It was beautiful

    The country club is amazing

What could be improved: We were in a group and all had different types of rooms and the youngest chose the best value rooms and they were very small and has hardly any light, however saying that you have to realise that this is a Riad. I would just say do your research ans speak the staff before because this hotel is amazing.

  • Exceptional – Chis from Romania – 11 June 2025 (10/10)

I loved the tranquility, the hotel, the food everything.

What could be improved: They insisted to book us a guide for the Medina, it was not so great, the guide was in a hurry, took us to different shops, and did not tell us enough about the history of the place.
The ideea was, the guide was not worth it.

  • Glorious old building with loads of character in a great location. – Cathy from Australia – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

Lots of character and history. Great location and really lovely staff.

What could be improved: There were a couple of little maintenance problems with the room, but I suppose it’s a historical building. The staff were happy to hear our report and were going to address the issues.

  • Elegant and charming—an ideal place to relax and soak in the beauty of Marrakesh. – Khatib from Canada – 8 June 2025 (10/10)

This hotel is upscale, beautifully designed, and offers a wonderful atmosphere. I stayed with a friend and had a great experience, but the ambiance also makes it perfect for couples—romantic, intimate, and charming. The service was excellent, and the setting felt like a peaceful escape in the middle of Marrakesh.

What could be improved: The room was a bit on the smaller side. It wasn't a big issue for us, but it might feel cozier and more fitting if you're visiting as a couple.
