You know what caught me first about La Maison Des Oliviers? The smell. I mean, you’re driving out from Marrakech’s medina chaos on the Route de l’Ourika – about 15 minutes if you hit it right – and suddenly there’s this incredible scent of actual olive trees mixed with that crisp mountain air. It’s positioned in Tassaltante, which honestly most tourists skip right past on their way to the Ourika Valley, but that’s exactly why it works. The place sits back from the road just enough that you get total quiet at night, but close enough that you’re not stranded if you want to grab a late dinner somewhere.

The property itself feels like someone’s wealthy aunt decided to open her countryside retreat to guests – and I mean that in the best way possible. There’s this lived-in elegance that you don’t get at those massive resort chains. The rooms have character (some might say quirks), like how the bathroom doors in the older wing don’t quite align perfectly, or how the AC takes about ten minutes to really kick in. But honestly, once you’re sitting on your terrace watching the Atlas Mountains change colors at sunset, you stop caring about minor stuff like that. The pool area is where most people end up spending their afternoons – it’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned to catch the breeze that comes down from the mountains around 3 PM. Pro tip: the lounge chairs on the left side stay shaded longer if you’re not a fan of intense sun.

What really sold me on this place was the staff’s approach to hospitality. They’re not hovering constantly, but they seem to anticipate what you need before you ask. The front desk guy – I think his name was Youssef – knew exactly which taxi drivers to call for day trips to the waterfalls, and more importantly, which ones to avoid. The breakfast setup runs until about 10:30 (though they’ll bend that rule if you ask nicely), and they actually make decent coffee, which… well, let’s just say that’s not always guaranteed at Moroccan hotels. The evening gets pretty magical here – there’s this terrace restaurant where you can hear the call to prayer echoing from the valley villages, and the kitchen does this tagine that’s probably better than what you’ll find in most Marrakech restaurants. Sure, it’s a bit pricier than eating in town, but when you factor in the taxi fare back and forth, it evens out. I’d definitely recommend this place if you want to experience Morocco beyond the medina madness but still be close enough to hit the souks when the mood strikes.

  Fabulous, peaceful hotel with friendly staff & comfortable rooms. The pool was gorgeous & there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere with delicious lunch menu. Dinner in the restaurant was also extremely good. We had a 20min back massage too which was professional & relaxing. We’ll definitely be returning!

  The grounds are amazing the pool is very nice. There’s big gardens and it has a really laid back almost beach style vibe to the place. Plenty of space to roam and find a quiet spot or sit by the huge pool.
