La Vie En Rose – Horses & Dogs House Overview
You know what caught me off guard about La Vie En Rose? The name had me expecting some cutesy French countryside knockoff, but this place is genuinely Moroccan in the best possible way. It’s about 14 kilometers out on the Ourika road – and honestly, that’s exactly where you want to be if you’re trying to escape Marrakech’s intensity without losing the mountain views. The drive takes maybe 20 minutes from the medina, depending on traffic, and you’ll actually feel your shoulders relax as the city chaos fades behind you.
The whole “Horses & Dogs House” thing isn’t just marketing fluff either. There are actual horses on the property, and I mean beautiful ones – not the tired tourist ride ponies you see everywhere. The dogs are these friendly, lazy creatures who’ll follow you around the gardens if you let them. Speaking of the gardens, they’re sprawling and a bit wild, which I loved. Not manicured to death like some places, but thoughtfully designed with olive trees and rosebushes that actually smell incredible in the early morning. The pool area gets great afternoon sun, and it’s big enough that you’re not bumping elbows with other guests. I spent most of my time there with a book, listening to the Atlas Mountains doing their thing in the background – birds, wind, the occasional horse snorting.
The rooms are solid four-star quality without trying too hard to impress. Mine had this gorgeous tiled bathroom and a private terrace that looked out toward the mountains. The bed was comfortable (important after long days exploring), and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which you’ll appreciate if you’re visiting in summer. What really got me was the attention to details – thick towels, local soaps that didn’t smell like generic hotel perfume, and blackout curtains that actually blocked light. The staff runs the place like they care about it, not like they’re just collecting paychecks. Check-in was smooth, and they helped arrange a taxi back to town when I needed it without any hassle or inflated prices.
Here’s the thing though – this isn’t a party destination. If you want nightlife and constant activity, stay closer to Jemaa el-Fnaa. But if you want to experience Morocco at a gentler pace, maybe take some day trips into the Ourika Valley or just need a proper break from the medina’s sensory overload, this place delivers. The restaurant serves decent Moroccan food (the tagine was legitimately good, not tourist-bland), and breakfast on the terrace is one of those simple pleasures that makes travel worthwhile. I’d definitely go back, probably in spring when the weather’s perfect and the gardens are at their peak.

On a adoré ! Le petit déjeuner, la piscine, les poneys en liberté, les balades à cheval pour les enfants, bref un superbe séjour ! Je recommande vivement !Superb – Aurelie from France – 29 April 2025 (9/10)
The house is fantastic and authentic. The garden is so beautiful and natural. The horses are in the garden, and the place is very quiet.
What could be improved: It was a bit noisy at night, if some clients are coming late.Really enjoyed my stay! – Christine from Netherlands – 11 August 2024 (9/10)

The property not suitable for family whom look at totally safe and clean environment. – Aziza from Saudi Arabia – 23 July 2024 (2/10)
What could be improved: They lack for safety especially for family. The property is too ancient and it located in the countryside, so don’t surprise if you faced insect or trapped inside your room if you can’t go outside because the door not work properly.
