But this place on Boulevard Bouakkaz actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked into the Lotissement Zerktouni area, which is one of those neighborhoods that feels properly Moroccan without being touristy – you’ll hear the call to prayer echoing between modern apartment blocks, and there’s this great little café down the street where locals grab their morning coffee.

The ten-minute airport claim is legit, by the way. I timed it when my flight got delayed (thanks, Royal Air Maroc), and it was actually closer to eight minutes in light traffic. But here’s what I didn’t expect – despite being so close to the airport, you barely hear the planes. The rooms face inward toward this lovely courtyard setup, and honestly, the soundproofing is better than some five-star places I’ve stayed at in Gueliz. The traditional Moroccan touches don’t feel forced either – we’re talking hand-painted tiles that look like someone’s grandmother actually chose them, not some designer’s idea of “authentic.” The beds are proper comfortable too, which… well, you know how hit-or-miss that can be in Morocco.

What really won me over was the staff’s approach to hospitality. They don’t hover or oversell you on excursions, but when I mentioned wanting to avoid the main tourist souks, the front desk guy – I think his name was Youssef – sketched out this little map to the Thursday market in Sidi Youssef Ben Ali. Game changer. The breakfast spread isn’t massive, but they do this thing with fresh orange juice that’s squeezed right there, and the msemen is clearly made on-site. I mean, you can smell it being prepared in the morning, which is infinitely better than those sad buffet pancakes you get at chain hotels. Parking is straightforward too – there’s a secure lot that doesn’t require parallel parking skills (thank goodness), and the wifi actually works in all the rooms, not just the lobby. The pool area gets lovely afternoon light, though it can get a bit busy when there are families around. Overall, it’s one of those places that just works – no drama, no unpleasant surprises, just solid comfort in a city that can sometimes feel overwhelming.
