MAISON PROCHE DANS LA MEDINA MARRAKECH Overview

So I stumbled across this place while wandering through the Medina – honestly, I almost walked right past it because these traditional riads don’t exactly scream “hotel” from the outside. MAISON PROCHE DANS LA MEDINA MARRAKECH sits on Rue Douar Graoua, and here’s what you need to know about that location: it’s deep enough into the medina that you feel properly immersed in the chaos, but not so deep that you’ll need a sherpa to find your way back to civilization.

The thing about staying here is that you’re getting the real medina experience without some of the headaches. I mean, yes, you’ll still hear the call to prayer at dawn (pack earplugs if you’re sensitive), and the narrow streets mean forget about any taxi dropping you at the door – but that’s part of the charm, right? The walk from the main road takes maybe five minutes through these winding alleys where kids are kicking soccer balls and women are hanging laundry from ornate balconies. Actually, the staff will meet you at a landmark nearby if you’re arriving with luggage, which is incredibly helpful because – trust me – dragging a suitcase over those uneven stones is not fun.

What really got me about this place was how it manages to feel authentically Moroccan without being a tourist trap. The traditional architecture is gorgeous (all those intricate tiles and carved wood details), but they’ve clearly put thought into modern comfort too. The rooms are well-appointed without being fancy-fancy, and honestly, the 4-star rating feels right – it’s not trying to be something it’s not. You know what I loved? The rooftop terrace. I spent way too many evenings up there with mint tea, watching the sun set over the medina while listening to the evening sounds drift up from the streets below.

The 8.2 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price point. It’s not perfect – the wifi can be spotty (though that might be a blessing in disguise), and some rooms are definitely better than others, so don’t be shy about asking to see a few if you’re checking in during a quiet period. But the staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, and they know the medina like the back of their hand. They’ll point you toward the good hammams, tell you which spice vendors won’t rip you off, and somehow always know exactly what you mean when you’re trying to describe that “blue door restaurant” you heard about.

If you’re the type who needs a pool and room service, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to wake up to the sound of medina life starting up for the day, if you want to be a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa but still feel like you’re discovering hidden corners – well, this little maison delivers on that promise. Just remember to download offline maps before you arrive, because even with decent directions, the medina has a way of keeping you guessing.

Reviews of MAISON PROCHE DANS LA MEDINA MARRAKECH

  • Una bella vacanza! – Vasilica from Italy – 17 June 2025 (8/10)

Il stile tipico sia fuori che dentro!

What could be improved: Un po’ il rumore dei motorini di notte!

  • It was very good overall. Good experience and service. – Anonymous from United Kingdom – 4 June 2025 (8/10)

It was clean and tidy. Also very close to the centre.

What could be improved: Roof top wasn’t properly arranged. Also the wifi was not working properly at the beginning.

  • Schönes kleines haus – Monika from Switzerland – 15 April 2025 (9/10)

    Typisches haus, nette nachbarn.
    Praktisch gelegen, gut eingerichtete küche.

What could be improved: Der rooftop war ungeputzt

  • Schönes altes gebäude. Perfekte lage. Roof top – Monika from Switzerland – 3 April 2025 (9/10)

Schönes altes gebäude. Betten sehr hart.

  • We could feel Moroccan for a week. – Nsze from Hungary – 23 February 2025 (8/10)

The accommodation was simple but pleasant. It was in accordance with local customs, so it was homely.

What could be improved: The accommodation can be found on felt. The taxi driver took me to the wrong place. Fake helpers pulled me down with money, the location should be given more accurately on Booking. E.g. "Lycée Mohammed 5" (this is 100 m away, a well-known meeting point).
The opposite blower operation is very noisy during the day.

  • Pobyt udany. – Tomasz from Poland – 31 December 2024 (8/10)

Dobre wyposażenie obiektu i taras na dachu

What could be improved: Problemy z internetem. Przez połowę pobytu nie było WiFi.

  • great house in the medina, close to the square – Jana from Poland – 26 November 2024 (9/10)

great location as it is in the medina on last bit of street that you can still drive to(taxi can drop you at the door – the owners have a designated taxi drive who you can arrange the transfers with), but you are also just 5 min walk from the big square Jemaa el Fna. next door is a local place that makes traditional breakfast soups, which we enjoyed on most days or you can head to some fancier places closer to the square. beds and bedrooms are very comfy but it can be noisy with the Motorbikes in the street like in most places in the medina. we used the roof terrace a lot with beautiful views over the roof and to the mountains. if you followed the advise to close all drains with the provided stoppers you had no issues with smells from the drains inside the house. you have no control outside so sometimes you would get a wiff even on the rooftop from other houses. we will be back.

What could be improved: the only little Thing was that the entrance to the mezzanine was very small due to a big vase places there. everything else was perfect for us.

  • This is adream come true. The best location in Marrakesh! You cannot get any better than this! – Wojciech from Poland – 9 November 2024 (10/10)

    everything was great

What could be improved: This is the best property in Marrakesh. Period.

  • Mind that you are arriving to a 3rd world country, and for that these airbnb places are overpriced. – Peter from Hungary – 15 June 2024 (7/10)

The local host was very nice and helpful with managing smaller issues. The location and the flat are unique experiences.

What could be improved: The flat is noisy from the people and traffic being outside, so have some earplugs. The drainage must be clogged since a weird smell comes, and after showering water also stays.

  • Superb – Laurent from France – 14 May 2024 (9/10)

La terrasse, la qualité de l'aménagement, la machine à laver, le voisinage sympa, le parking proche, la réactivité des échanges.
