Origin Hotels Riad Lhena Overview

You know what? I’ve stayed at my fair share of riads in Marrakech, and Origin Hotels Riad Lhena actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. Tucked away on derb Moulay Abdul Kader – and honestly, you’ll need those GPS coordinates because these medina streets all look the same until you know them – this place feels like someone took a traditional riad and just… made it work for actual travelers. The first thing that hits you when you walk through that heavy wooden door is how they’ve managed to keep all the gorgeous tilework and carved plaster details while sneaking in things like reliable wifi and water pressure that doesn’t make you want to cry.

The location is pretty sweet, actually. You’re deep enough in the medina to feel like you’re experiencing the real Marrakech – I mean, you’ll hear the call to prayer echoing off the walls and catch whiffs of tagines cooking from neighboring houses – but you’re not so buried that getting back after dinner becomes an adventure sport. It’s maybe a ten-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa, though I’d recommend taking a slightly longer route through the souk areas during the day because the direct path gets absolutely mobbed with tourists and those guys selling wooden camels. The staff here actually knows the medina inside and out, which is huge because even with Google Maps, these narrow alleys can be confusing as hell.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to detail without being fussy about it. The rooms have that perfect riad feel – you know, the thick walls that keep things cool, beautiful traditional furniture, those tiny windows that make you feel like you’re in some romantic movie – but they’ve also figured out modern touches like decent lighting for reading and bathrooms that don’t feel like afterthoughts. The central courtyard is where you’ll probably end up spending your mornings with coffee, and it’s got this peaceful vibe even when the medina outside is in full swing. I stayed during shoulder season in October, and honestly, it was perfect for lounging around between exploring sessions. The rooftop terrace gives you those classic medina views everyone’s after, plus you can actually see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, which never gets old. Staff-wise, they’re genuinely helpful without being pushy – they’ll arrange your airport transfer, recommend restaurants that aren’t tourist traps, and somehow always seem to know exactly when you need fresh towels without you having to ask. For a four-star place in this part of the medina, it’s honestly solid value, especially considering that 8.9 rating isn’t just marketing fluff.

Reviews of Origin Hotels Riad Lhena

  • Exceptional – Roxana from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (10/10)

Everyone was very friendly. Loved the bed and the pillows. Very comfortable. Loved the breakfast as well- felt like a feast. I would return here

  • It was a lovely stay and the staff were very friendly. Right in the centre of the medina so great location. – Marina from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (8/10)

Very authentic and close to the main square.

What could be improved: AC wasn’t working and pool not in action but didn’t really need it.

  • Great place to stay, awesome staff! – Marwa from United Kingdom – 30 April 2025 (10/10)

Great place. Located right in the medina; as soon as you step out and walk about two minutes you’re in the hustle and bustle of the markets but the riad is tucked away just enough so that you don’t hear any of the noise from there at all. Amazing staff that are super helpful and friendly! The rooms were tidied and cleaned everyday by lovely ladies. We had a nice and simple breakfast everyday in the cute courtyard (croissants, fresh coffee/mint tea, fresh orange juice, yogurts, jams, flatbread, omelettes). It’s clean, plenty of towels, nice hot showers, and 2 sinks! As a group of 3 women, we felt very safe in this accommodation.

What could be improved: Nothing major to complain about, but if I was being picky I would say the room is a tad bit dark, could add some brighter ceiling lights.

  • 10 stars – Allan from United Kingdom – 13 April 2025 (10/10)

  • A beautiful Riad with highly attentive and excellent staff. – Edward from United Kingdom – 9 April 2025 (10/10)

The staff, location and service was exceptional. A short 5 minute walk into central Marrakech, whilst offering complete privacy and serenity in the city.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Bájos – Ildiko from Hungary – 7 April 2025 (9/10)

This beautiful Riad golded the best days of our life. The kind welcome, the welcome tea, and then the reception of the beautiful suite confirmed in me that it was a great choice!
The manager of the hotel, Abdel, speaks excellent English and provided good advices for exploring the city. I must emphasize that we felt very safe thanks to Abdel's the night colleague who speaks good English. The Riad was quiet at night, after the comfort of the bed, a great breakfast awaited us on the wonderful terrace. The kindness and helpfulness were almost tactile at every moment. Needless to say, there would be no question of choosing this Riad, I hope we will have the opportunity again! From here, we send our kind regards to the entire staff of the Riad!

  • We had the best time staying here and totally made out trip 100/10! Thank you for having us 🙂 – Reza from United Kingdom – 4 April 2025 (10/10)

    – Travelled as 3 young women and felt very safe getting there, very easy to find as well (Used my dad's account to book)
    – Beautiful riad with a very relaxing terrace on the top floor where you can have breakfast or chill in the evenings
    – Breakfast was so good and loved the traditional tea and food!
    – Amazing location (5 mins from Jeema Al Fnaa main market square)
    – ~15 mins walk from all of the main tourist attractions

What could be improved: Nothing 🤩

  • Very good – Janette from United Kingdom – 23 March 2025 (8/10)

    Traditional riad

What could be improved: Down a dark alley, disconcerting as I was alone.

  • A beautiful and quiet haven in the middle of the medina – Brenda-cariina from Estonia – 23 March 2025 (9/10)

We loved our stay at this beautiful riad. It was on a quiet street and had a lovely courtyard you could spend time at. The room was cozy and the bedsheets were so soft! We also loved the beautiful interior and sunny rooftop. The staff is very kind and helpful, and the breakfasts are really good – lots of sweet and savoury options.

  • Perfect – Gaynor from United Kingdom – 20 March 2025 (10/10)
