Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads around Marrakech, and honestly? Most of them are either tourist traps or they’re so “authentic” you can’t get a decent night’s sleep. But this little gem on Derb Labzioui – well, it’s actually what you hope for when you picture yourself in Morocco.

The thing is, finding it the first time is a bit of an adventure (welcome to the medina), but once you wind through those narrow alleys and step through that heavy wooden door, you get it. The whole place is yours – I mean, it’s completely private, which is pretty rare in this part of town. You’re not sharing your morning coffee with strangers or trying to negotiate pool time with other guests. The courtyard has this perfect fountain that makes just enough noise to drown out the call to prayer at 5 AM if you’re a light sleeper, and the orange trees actually smell incredible in the evenings. The rooms wrap around this central space in that classic riad style, but everything feels carefully restored rather than, you know, museum-like.

What really won me over was the location – you’re deep enough in the medina to feel like you’re living in old Marrakech, but Derb Labzioui connects to some of the main arteries, so you’re not completely lost every time you want to grab dinner. The Saadian Tombs are maybe a ten-minute walk, and you can easily navigate to Jemaa el-Fnaa without hiring a guide (though the first few times, honestly, good luck). The staff – and I think there’s just a small team managing the place – actually knows the neighborhood. They pointed me toward this tiny spice shop that locals use instead of the tourist souks, and gave me the real story about which hammams are worth your time. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll end up spending most evenings anyway, watching the storks nest on the mosque towers and listening to the medina settle down for the night. It gets surprisingly quiet after sunset, which you don’t expect when you’re surrounded by thousands of people living in this maze of buildings. Sure, the Wi-Fi can be spotty (this is a centuries-old building, after all), and the hot water takes a minute to kick in, but honestly – if you’re worried about that stuff, maybe just stay in Gueliz at a chain hotel. This place has that almost mystical quality that makes you understand why people fall in love with Morocco, but without the chaos that usually comes with it.

  Il Riad è bellissimo, pulito ed ordinato. La posizione è perfetta per poter girare la città a piedi o per il punto d'incontro dei vari tour operator. Ogni stanza è dotata di bagno e climatizzazione. La terrazza più alta permette di poter ammirare il minareto ed il resto del panorama.

  Bellissime casa tradizionale nel cuore della città a due passi dalla Medina. Camere arredate con gusto e cura. Adatto a famiglie allargate (noi siamo andati con figli genitori e nonni). Ottima soluzione per ripararsi dal caldo torrido: gli interni sono freschissimi anche senza usare il condizionatore!!
  
  What could be improved: La struttura non è economica in assoluto ma la città è generalmente più cara di tutte le altre visitate in Marocco. Sicuramente per la qualità dell'alloggio vale assolutamente! Da tenere in conto che per accedere alle camere bisogna affrontare le scale!
