You know what struck me first about Pavillon Affaoui Golf & Waky? It’s not actually in the thick of Marrakech’s chaos – and I mean that in the best possible way. The place sits out in Les Jardins de l’Atlas along the Ourika road, which honestly feels like a different world from the medina madness. You’re about 20 minutes from Jemaa el-Fnaa, but it might as well be another planet given how peaceful it is out here.

The property itself has this really interesting vibe – it’s part golf resort, part family retreat, and the “Waky” part refers to their water park setup, which actually works surprisingly well. I was skeptical at first (water parks in Morocco can be hit or miss), but the kids were absolutely thrilled, and even the adults ended up spending more time by the pools than expected. The golf course is decent too, though I’d recommend early morning rounds because the afternoon heat can be brutal, especially in summer. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to create these distinct zones – you can completely avoid the water park noise if you want to just chill by the quieter adult pool, or embrace the family chaos if that’s your thing.

The rooms are solid 4-star standard – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but everything works, the AC is reliable (crucial in Marrakech), and the beds are actually comfortable. I’ve stayed in plenty of Moroccan hotels where the mattresses feel like they’re from the 1980s, but not here. The staff really makes the difference though – they’re genuinely helpful without being pushy, and most speak decent English and French alongside Arabic. Check-in was smooth, and they were super accommodating when we needed to switch rooms (our first one faced the water park and was a bit too lively for my taste).

Here’s the thing about the location – yes, you’ll need a taxi or car to get into town, but that 9.4 rating isn’t a fluke. Sometimes you want to experience authentic Morocco, and sometimes you want to decompress from experiencing authentic Morocco. This place is perfect for the latter. The breakfast spread is impressive with both Moroccan and international options, and their evening entertainment strikes the right balance – cultural but not over-the-top touristy. Plus, if you’re planning day trips to the Atlas Mountains or the Ourika Valley, you’re perfectly positioned. The hotel can arrange transfers, but honestly, renting a car for a few days isn’t a bad idea if you want to explore the region properly. Just be prepared for some interesting driving experiences once you head back toward the city center.

  Heel modern ingericht appartement, kleine gesloten achtertuin, goede airconditioning, etc. Het was ruim opgezet en je voelde je snel thuis. Op 5 minuten rij-afstand is ook een heel fijn zwembad.
  Als je van katten houdt; er zitten veel katten in het resort.
  
  What could be improved: Het appartement is vrij nieuw, maar er zijn denk ik enkele constructiefouten gemaakt, waardoor bijv. de douchedeur moeilijk sluit, maar dat is niet enorm storend.
