Penthouse Marrakech Overview

So here’s the thing about Penthouse Marrakech – it’s actually in Gueliz, which honestly is perfect if you’re one of those travelers who wants to experience the “real” Marrakech without diving headfirst into the medina chaos on day one. I mean, don’t get me wrong, you’ll definitely want to explore the old city, but coming back to Boulevard el Mansour Eddahbi after a day of haggling in the souks? Pure relief.

The hotel itself has this interesting vibe – it’s got that modern Moroccan thing going on without trying too hard, you know? When you walk in, there’s this subtle blend of contemporary design with just enough traditional touches that you remember you’re not in some generic business hotel. The lobby smells faintly of orange blossom (which I’m pretty sure is intentional, but it works), and the staff actually seem to know what they’re doing rather than just going through the motions. Check-in was smooth – no standing around for twenty minutes while they figure out your reservation, which has definitely happened to me at other places in the city.

What really sold me on this place was the location situation. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from the train station, which is clutch if you’re doing day trips to Casablanca or Rabat, and there’s this little café right around the corner that serves the best msemen I had during my entire stay (the locals line up there every morning around 8 AM, which is always a good sign). The rooms are solid – not enormous, but well thought out with decent air conditioning that actually works, which… let’s just say that’s not always a given in Marrakech, especially during summer. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with a backache, and there’s proper blackout curtains, which you’ll appreciate when you realize how bright the morning sun gets here.

One thing that’s sort of refreshing – the rooftop terrace gives you this great view of the Atlas Mountains on clear days, but it’s not constantly packed with tour groups taking selfies. Maybe it’s because they don’t advertise it as much, or maybe it’s just the type of travelers who end up here, but you can actually sit up there with a mint tea in the evening and hear yourself think. The pool area is small but clean, and while it gets a bit crowded around 2 PM, early morning or late afternoon it’s pretty peaceful.

I’ll be honest – this isn’t the fanciest place you’ll find in Marrakech, and if you’re looking for that over-the-top luxury resort experience, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you want a place that’s comfortable, well-located, and feels like it’s run by people who actually care about hospitality rather than just going through the motions, Penthouse Marrakech delivers. Plus, you’re paying for quality without the tourist markup you get at some of the more famous spots. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
