Piscine Hivernage plein Centre Overview

You know what struck me first about Piscine Hivernage plein Centre? The name actually tells you everything you need to know – it’s right in the thick of Gueliz, which honestly is where you want to be if you’re not into staying in the medina chaos. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the old city has its charm, but sometimes you just want to walk to a decent café without navigating a maze of donkeys and aggressive carpet sellers.

The location on Boulevard Mohamed VI is pretty sweet – you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Majorelle Gardens (though go early, trust me on this one), and there’s this little patisserie called Amandine just around the corner that does these incredible almond croissants. The hotel itself has that sort of… well, it’s not trying to be a riad, which I actually appreciated. It’s got a clean, modern vibe with Moroccan touches that don’t feel forced. The pool area – and yes, the pool is definitely the star here – has these comfortable loungers where you can actually escape the Marrakech heat without feeling like you’re in some Instagram fever dream. I spent way too many afternoons there with a book and one of their surprisingly good mint teas.

What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to know their stuff about the city. The guy at reception (Mohammed, I think?) gave me directions to this local hammam that wasn’t touristy at all – just follow Avenue Hassan II toward the train station, he said, and he was spot on. The rooms are solid four-star quality, nothing fancy but the AC works like a dream (crucial in summer, obviously), and the beds are actually comfortable. I’ve stayed in places where the mattress feels like a concrete slab, but this was fine. The bathroom was clean, good water pressure, though the shower door had this weird tendency to swing open mid-shower – minor thing, but worth mentioning. You can hear some street noise from the boulevard-facing rooms, but it’s more like the gentle hum of a city waking up rather than anything jarring. Actually reminded me a bit of staying in Barcelona, if that makes sense. Parking is available if you’re brave enough to drive in Marrakech (I wasn’t), and they’ve got this little terrace restaurant that’s perfect for breakfast – the Moroccan pancakes are ridiculously good, and they don’t overcharge for orange juice like some places do. For the price point and that 8-out-of-10 rating, it totally makes sense. It’s the kind of place where you can base yourself to explore both the modern city and the medina without committing fully to either vibe.
