You know what struck me first about Riad 64? The silence. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the medina – Derb Zemrane is this narrow little street that weaves through the Berrima neighborhood – but once you step through that heavy wooden door, it’s like someone hit the mute button on Marrakech. The contrast is honestly incredible, especially if you’ve ever tried to sleep near Jemaa el-Fna (which, trust me, you don’t want to do).

The whole place feels like someone’s incredibly stylish aunt decided to open her home to travelers. There’s this gorgeous central courtyard – because it’s a proper riad, you know – with these intricate zellige tiles that catch the light differently throughout the day. I actually spent way too much time just watching the shadows shift across the walls. The spa is tucked away in what feels like a secret corner, and after a day of navigating the souks (which are literally a five-minute walk away), those hammam sessions hit different. The staff seems to actually know their stuff too, not just going through the motions like at some places.

What I really appreciated was how they handle the whole “finding your way” situation. Look, the medina is confusing – even Google Maps gives up sometimes – but they’ll actually send someone to meet you at one of the main landmarks if you’re arriving by taxi. Smart move, because taxi drivers won’t even attempt Derb Zemrane with a car. The rooms themselves are beautifully done without being too museum-like, if that makes sense. You get the traditional Moroccan aesthetic but with proper air conditioning and a bathroom where everything actually works. And honestly, for a 4-star place with a 9.1 rating, the prices are pretty reasonable compared to what you’d pay for similar quality in the Gueliz district. The rooftop terrace gives you those classic medina views – all those satellite dishes and minarets stretching out toward the Atlas Mountains – and it’s particularly magical around sunset when the call to prayer echoes across the city.

  Rooms were cosy. Baths were huge. Beds were firm but surprisingly comfy. Interior was lovely and welcoming. Breakfast was nice. Staff extra friendly and attentive. Food was delicious. Spa was small and intimate, treatments were great. Lounges available and beautiful rooftop. Pool was nice. Too cold to swim at time of year. Real orange trees growing

  Everything was amazing Great room, garden, terrace, breakfast. We were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday and they managed to arrange a beautiful cake quite last minute, as well as birthday decorations. Clean and peaceful. We loved it!

  Well presented riad that was very comfortable and atmospheric. The staff were exceptionally attentive, especially Abdul was very welcoming. It was my birthday on 31st Dec and they made a real effort to make the night special and help us make lasting memories. Nice touches like “Happy Birthday” written on the bed with petals, and a cake with candles.
  
  What could be improved: Although we liked that there were a variety pancakes on offer for breakfast, we would have appreciated some eggs, fruit, etc
