Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of riads in Marrakech, and honestly? Riad Abdou surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in the Nakhil sud area – you know, that quieter stretch south of the main medina chaos where you can actually hear yourself think. The address might look confusing (G11 numero 100 Qaria syahia, if you’re wondering), but once your taxi driver figures it out, you’ll be glad you made the trek.

The thing about this place is that it feels like someone’s actual home that they’ve opened up to guests – not some sterile hotel trying to look Moroccan. The courtyard has this gorgeous traditional fountain that actually works (you’d be surprised how many don’t), and the sound of water trickling becomes this soothing background noise that drowns out the occasional motorbike from the street. I mean, the tilework is incredible – all those intricate geometric patterns that probably took months to complete. The rooms wrap around this central space, and honestly, even the ground floor ones are lovely because you get that constant view of the courtyard. The rooftop terrace is where I spent most of my evenings though, especially during sunset when you can see the Atlas Mountains in the distance looking all purple and dramatic.

What really got me was how the staff actually remembers your name and your mint tea preferences by day two. The owner, Abdou (yeah, it’s named after him), often hangs around in the evenings and he’s got these great stories about old Marrakech that you won’t find in any guidebook. The breakfast spread is proper Moroccan – fresh bread, local honey, those amazing olives, and coffee that’ll wake you up properly. Location-wise, you’re about a 15-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa if you want the full tourist experience, but close enough to some excellent local restaurants that the guests never seem to find. There’s this little place around the corner that does tagines for about half what you’d pay in the medina center. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the property (tested it thoroughly), and the hot water situation is reliable – two things that can make or break a riad experience, trust me. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there; it’s got that perfect balance of authentic character and actual comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find in Marrakech these days.

  What could be improved: Quel dommage ce Riadh est splendide mais manque d’entretien … une pièce en bas avec une machine à laver qui détruit le linge ( linge abîmé et décoloré ) sans essorer et une odeur nauséabonde qui empeste la maison … une Clim ou chauffage défectueuse . Nous étions 6 et malheureusement ne pouvions nous laver tous les 6 manque d’eau chaude ….sans parler des tuyaux ds douche très abîmés ….
