You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Derb Asafrou looking for Riad Agathe & Spa – honestly, these narrow medina streets all start to look the same after a while, and finding the right doorway can be a bit of a treasure hunt. But then you step through that unassuming entrance and it’s like someone hit the reset button on your senses. The courtyard just opens up with this gorgeous traditional tilework and suddenly all the chaos of Marrakech feels miles away, even though you’re literally in the heart of the medina.

The thing about staying in Riad Laarouss is that you’re actually in one of the quieter pockets of the old city – close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa in about ten minutes, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you won’t have people hawking carpets outside your door at 7 AM. The riad itself feels genuinely authentic without being stuffy about it, if that makes sense. The rooms have this perfect balance of traditional Moroccan design and modern comfort – I mean, you’ve got your ornate carved wood and beautiful textiles, but also reliable hot water and air conditioning that actually works (trust me, this matters in summer). The spa is honestly the real gem here though. It’s small and intimate, not some massive hotel operation, and the hammam experience feels like something locals would actually use rather than a tourist show.

What really sold me on this place was the staff – they have this way of being incredibly helpful without being pushy, which is refreshing in a city where everyone’s trying to sell you something. They’ll give you proper directions to places (not just “go straight and turn left”), and they actually know the neighborhood well enough to recommend the good local spots. The rooftop terrace is perfect for evening drinks – you get these amazing views over the medina rooftops, and it’s one of those places where you end up staying longer than planned just watching the city settle into night. The location on Rue Sidi Bouamar means you’re close to some really good traditional restaurants that don’t cater specifically to tourists, which is honestly half the reason to stay in the medina anyway. Fair warning though – like most riads, the rooms can vary quite a bit in size and layout, so it’s worth asking about specifics when you book. But with a 9.3 rating, they’re clearly doing something right, and after spending a few days there, I totally get why people keep coming back.

  What could be improved: It s in the heart fo downtown, so the street yo reach out the riad could look a bit strange for anyone who come for the first time in Marrakesh. Then you will not take in consideration further. The city is fully safe.

  The Riad itself is very pretty with lots of sitting areas and the staff were definitely the highlight of the stay. Special thanks to Zouhair, Hamza Jr. and Hamza Sr. for making our stay a memorable one. They are very helpful especially with booking taxis and other activities. The Riad is just a stone throw away from the souks and other attractions such as Bacha cafe and others. Our dinner on arrival was delicious (we got the lamb, beef, chicken tagine) and the free breakfast every morning is also great
  
  What could be improved: Well it’s not that I didn’t like it but I felt like the rooms could be better as it was a little dated. However, you get what you pay for so not complaining.

  Absolutely everything. Hamza went out of his way to get me a birthday cake and flowers, arranged with my partner. The location is slightly out of the hustle and bustle which is lovely. The rooms were clean, spotlessly clean, staff were so friendly and welcoming.

  We loved everything about this riad, especially the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff members we met. It's a simple place, in keeping with its central location, but had everything we needed. Our room and bathroom were comfortable and quiet, and we liked overlooking the central courtyard. The breakfasts were generous, and we greatly enoyed our pre-ordered arrival nght dinner at a reasonable cost. Jamaa Fna Square is about 10 mins walk away, and we easily walked to everything we wanted to see. The wifi worked perfectly. It's a pity we didn't have more time to spend on the rooftop terrace. Very highly recommended.
