Riad Ago Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Riad Ago, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The entrance is tucked away on this narrow street in Riad Zitoun Lakdim, and you know how it is in the medina – you’re basically following GPS prayers and hoping for the best. But once you step through that heavy wooden door, it’s like someone hit the mute button on all the chaos outside.
The thing about this place is that it actually feels like a real riad, not one of those tourist traps that’s been stripped of all character. The courtyard has this gorgeous tilework – proper zellij, not the fake stuff – and there’s always this subtle scent of orange blossoms mixing with whatever the kitchen’s cooking up. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star spot, though honestly, the bathrooms are better than some 5-star places I’ve stayed at (and I mean that about the water pressure, which is no joke when you’re dealing with medina plumbing). The staff here actually knows the neighborhood – when I needed to find a specific spice shop, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the main souks, he walked me halfway there and introduced me to his cousin who runs a much better place.
What really sold me on Riad Ago was the rooftop situation. Most evenings, you’ll find me up there with a mint tea, watching the Atlas Mountains turn pink while the call to prayer echoes across the city. It’s not fancy – just some comfortable seating and string lights – but it’s exactly what you want after spending the day getting delightfully lost in the souks. The location is pretty perfect too, actually. You’re deep enough in the medina to feel authentic (good luck getting a taxi to the door, but that’s part of the charm), but it’s maybe a 10-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa if you need your tourist fix. The Saadian Tombs are practically around the corner, and there’s this little bakery on the way that does these incredible msemen in the mornings – the riad staff will point you toward it if you ask. One thing to note: the 8.3 rating feels about right. It’s not perfect – the WiFi can be spotty, and sometimes the hot water takes a minute to kick in – but these are minor complaints in a place that gets the big things right. The whole experience just works, you know?

Reviews of Riad Ago
affordable, above-and-beyond service, good location – Katherine from United States – 3 April 2025 (9/10)
The location was a short walk from the main square. The staff were AMAZING!! Hamza and Rida, brothers, gave us an overview of where we were located, local map, made bookings for day tours and airport shuttles, and even helped us wrap up two tajines (awkard-sized, fragile ceramics) for carry-on on our return flights. Breakfasts were tasty. All staff were very polite and super helpful. The riad was quiet and safe for mother/daughter travelers. We enjoyed the 2 little dogs on-site. They were never pesky, noisy or bothersome – we called them to us, as we missed our dog at home.
What could be improved: It's a restored, older riad, so it might not be asthetically possible, but a shower curtain would be so nice. Water got all over the floor when we showered. Another outlet in the bathroom or bedroom would be a huge help as there is only one outlet, and when it was chilly, that outlet had to be used for the plug-in heater. An easy solution would be a multi-outlet power strip provided in each room.Great experience and recommend to stay in great environment. – Atif from United Kingdom – 2 April 2025 (9/10)
Riad Ago is in middle of everything… fantastic experience
Specially Hamza … a great person to deal with and expert to describes the city and places.
Breakfast was clean and nice … Good taste and respectful staff.Superb – Beatrix from Romania – 6 January 2025 (9/10)
The property had some difficulties when we arrived and they couldn’t accommodate us anymore. The owner was very helpful and he found us another riad across the street for the same price. We got a full refund for the reservation. The collaboration with the staff was very good.
Staff were great in this well located Riad – Jerome from France – 7 December 2024 (8/10)
Great place to stay.
What could be improved: Awkward lighting and charging places in the roomBest value for cost option, with really good location. – Sandor from Hungary – 1 December 2024 (9/10)
Welcoming, helpful, humble owner and staff. Whatever we have asked for have been immediately serviced, helped, advised, for anything ranging from goods and articles, trips, sources thte locals use, organizing our transfers or advise on go-to locations. Compared to regular European hosts this riad offers low bargain on stays with genuine hospitality.
What could be improved: Cannot tell any negative about this riad.RIAD AGO – Laurie from Spain – 11 October 2024 (9/10)
Good value for money. Excellent location and very attentive staff and very helpful. Lovely breakfast. Comfortable bed and large bathroom.
What could be improved: I would have liked either a small cupboard or a shelf for my clothes. There is a place to hang clothes but no shelf.Beautiful riad, a perfect start to our holiday – Vick from United Kingdom – 23 September 2024 (9/10)
The staff were exceptionally helpful especially when we arrived late on our first night because of delays getting out of the airport (and thank goodness the hotel arranged to collect us). Also the owner showed me how to download an offline map to use to navigate around Marrakesh without wifi, which was great! The whole place was just what we hoped for, very traditional and beautiful Moroccan shabby chic, the room was very clean, the location was excellent and we had a surprising view! (Shown in pictures).
What could be improved: The puppies on the top patio (right next to our room) were super cute but they were leaving their mess around so I didn't want to spend time out there. A minor point as we only stayed 2 nights.Fantastic stay at Riad Ago where we were made to feel like family!😊 – Michelle from Spain – 15 September 2024 (9/10)
The location is fantastic, right in the buzzing lanes of the Medina which lead to the Souk Grand Bazaar only 200 metres walk away
The accommodation is a typical Moroccan Riad, a little bit rustic but that’s what you want right when staying in the Medina right
Rooms are comfortable with an air fan and own bathroom
The owners Redi & Houda are fantastic, so welcoming and friendly, their home really is your home, we extended our stay another two days it was so good. They organised a cooked Lemon chicken tagline and salad to eat there as a thank you which was so delicious we had it again the day we left before the airport.
Considering your rooms are around the communal courtyard it was very quiet when people having an early breakfast before leaving in the mornings, the breakfast is very good, lots of breads, jams, honey and cream cheese and Hamza cooked small omelettes for my husband as he’s gluten intolerant which was very much appreciated.
Very grateful for a fantastic feeling like home stay at Riad Ago. Thank you 😊😊
