Riad Al Loune Overview
You know what struck me first about Riad Al Loune? The moment you duck through that heavy wooden door on Derb El Cadi, it’s like someone hit the mute button on Marrakech. I mean, the medina’s chaos is literally right outside – donkey carts clattering over cobblestones, vendors calling out prices for everything from saffron to slippers – but inside this place, there’s this incredible sense of calm that honestly caught me off guard.
The thing about staying in the Azbezt quarter is that you’re deep enough in the medina to feel properly immersed, but not so buried that you’ll spend twenty minutes wandering narrow alleys trying to find your way back after dinner. The riad sits on one of those traditional derbs that actually makes sense once you walk it a few times, and you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa if you know the shortcuts (which the staff will happily sketch out for you on the back of a business card). What I really appreciated was how the building itself tells the story – it’s this beautifully restored traditional house where every tile and carved cedar beam feels intentional, not like someone just threw Moroccan décor at the walls and called it authentic.
The rooms have that perfect balance of character and comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find. You get the high ceilings and traditional tadelakt walls, but also proper hot water pressure and Wi-Fi that actually works when you need to upload those inevitable courtyard photos. The central courtyard is where you’ll probably end up spending most of your downtime – there’s something about sitting there in the late afternoon with mint tea, listening to the call to prayer echo between the buildings, that just makes sense. Honestly, the 9.3 rating doesn’t surprise me at all. The staff has that rare quality of being genuinely helpful without hovering, and they seem to actually know the medina inside and out rather than just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. They’ll tell you which hammam is worth your time, or where to find the best tagine that doesn’t cost tourist prices. Check-in was smooth even though we arrived during that chaotic late afternoon rush when half the medina seems to be moving goods around on motorbikes and carts. One small thing – if you’re arriving after dark, definitely arrange pickup from the main road because these medieval streets weren’t designed for wheeled luggage, and the lighting can be pretty dim once you’re off the main thoroughfares.

What could be improved: N/aCharming Riad with great service located 10 minutes from the city center. – Pulido from United States – 23 April 2025 (9/10)
This was my first Riad in Morocco and it certainly set the bar. From the pick up to my last day, the service was phenomenal. I requested transportation to pick me up and take me to the entrance of the media. Then someone from the road picked me up on his motorbike which was an added bonus as I got to ride through the media on a bike. So much fun! The location is fantastic. Just 10 minutes from Cafe France, which is a meeting point for A LOT of excursions and transportation. It’s a 15 mi. Walk to lots of things. It was all about the details for me. From the mint tea with cookies they have to great you upon your arrival to the toiletries they have available. Breakfast was a traditional Moroccan breakfast so be prepared for lots of carbs.
What could be improved: The beds are relatively firm so be prepared for that. I personally like my bed a little more soft but I quickly found out that ALL beds in Morocco are super firmVery good – Abdulla from Saudi Arabia – 18 April 2025 (8/10)
The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming especially yaseen and Khadijah and the other ladies. Away from noise.

The staff is incredibly welcoming and always ready to help, making you feel right at home. The homemade breakfast is generous and delicious, a perfect way to start the day. Its location is ideal for experiencing the city and soaking in the local vibe. Highly recommended!
