Riad Amalia Overview
You know what struck me first about Riad Amalia? The fact that it’s tucked away on Derb Amizmiz in the Kasbah – and I mean really tucked away. You’ll probably walk past the entrance twice before you spot it, which is honestly perfect because it means you’re getting that authentic medina experience without the tourist crowds constantly streaming by. The Kasbah neighborhood itself is this fascinating mix of local families and traditional crafts workshops, so you’re hearing the actual rhythm of Marrakech life rather than just the souk sales pitches.
The riad itself feels like someone’s elegant family home that they’ve opened up to guests – which, knowing how these places usually work, is probably exactly what happened. The central courtyard has this gorgeous fountain that’s not just for show (the sound actually helps drown out any street noise, though honestly the Kasbah is pretty quiet compared to the main medina anyway). What I really appreciated was how they’ve kept the original zellige tilework and carved plasterwork intact – you can tell the difference between restored authentic pieces and modern replicas once you’ve seen enough of these places, and Riad Amalia clearly invested in doing things right. The rooms open onto different levels around the courtyard, so you get these lovely glimpses of the space throughout the day as the light changes.
Here’s what makes this place special though – the staff actually knows the neighborhood. I mean, they can tell you which hammam the locals use (not just the fancy tourist ones), where to grab proper Moroccan coffee in the morning, and honestly, they steered me toward this tiny restaurant about five minutes away that I never would have found otherwise. The breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace, and while you can’t see the Atlas Mountains from there, you get these beautiful views over the Kasbah’s rooftops and toward the Koutoubia minaret. Pro tip: if you’re there during Ramadan, the evening call to prayer from up there is absolutely incredible – the acoustics in the medina create this layered sound that’s pretty unforgettable.
The location is what really sets it apart from some of the flashier riads in Jemaa el-Fnaa area. You’re close enough to walk to the main square (maybe 10 minutes through the souks), but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night without earplugs. Plus, being in the Kasbah means you’re near the Saadian Tombs and the royal palace, so you can knock out some major sightseeing before the day heats up. The neighborhood has this lived-in feeling that a lot of the more touristy areas have lost – kids playing soccer in the small squares, women chatting on doorsteps, the occasional donkey cart navigating the narrow streets. It’s exactly what people picture when they think of staying in a traditional riad, but without feeling like you’re in some kind of Moroccan theme park.

Clean, comfortable and quiet – I'd definitely stay here again. – Karen from Australia – 8 July 2025 (9/10)
Our group of 5 had a lovely overnight stay at Riad Amalia. It is located in a quiet neighborhood in the Medina. The rooms were large, clean and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I contacted them to arrange airport transfers and they were quick to respond to requests. The staff were very friendly and helpful with local information and helped us arrange some activities.

Breakfast was excellent. All lovely fresh locally produced fruit, bread, yogurts etc. The staff in the Riad were very friendly and helpful as was everyone we met in Marrakech. The whole trip was a real experience and I would recommend a visit to anyone.
What could be improved: The whole experience was great, especially the stuff. Just one small issue with the water pressure in the shower which I'm sure can be easily rectified.Absolutely wonderful – Natalia from Poland – 5 May 2025 (10/10)

Loved this place and would recommend to others! – Raquel from United States – 27 April 2025 (10/10)
I absolutely loved my stay at Riad Amalia. The quality of service that the staff provided during my four night stay was exceptional from arranging taxis for me, carrying my bags during check in and check out, and even arranging a very informative and thorough tour guide to take me through the Medina and souks. Each morning they provide a wonderful breakfast spread of different foods, AC unit keeping my room cool at night, and it was just a very peaceful and quiet environment overall. Special shout out to Younes for going and above and beyond during my stay here. All staff workers were amazing and made me feel right at home. I felt welcome and safe – I really appreciate all of your help. Solo female traveler friendly! Thank you, Riad Amalia!
What could be improved: All was great!Three days in Marrakech! – Karageorgiou from Greece – 13 April 2025 (9/10)
The riad was very beautiful, picturesque and relaxing, but a bit difficult location. It didn't have a TV or a hairdryer. Compared to accommodations we've visited recently in central Europe, it was rather overpriced.
