Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads in Marrakech, and honestly, most of them feel like they’re trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect. But Riad Amya & Spa? It actually gets the balance right between authentic Moroccan charm and the kind of comfort you need after a long day wandering through the souks.

The location on Rue Bab Ahmar is pretty ideal – you’re deep enough in the medina to feel like you’re really experiencing the old city, but not so buried that you’ll spend twenty minutes with Google Maps trying to find your way back from Jemaa el-Fnaa. I mean, you’ll still get a little lost (it’s the medina, after all), but the staff actually gives you proper directions, not just “follow the main street.” The riad itself is tucked behind one of those nondescript wooden doors that make you wonder if you’re in the right place, but once you step inside… well, it’s like that moment in every Morocco travel documentary where they reveal the gorgeous courtyard. The traditional tiles are stunning – none of that mass-produced stuff you see in newer places – and there’s this fountain that creates just enough ambient sound to drown out the occasional motorbike puttering through the alley outside.

What really impressed me was how they’ve modernized without losing the soul of the place. The rooms have proper air conditioning (trust me, you’ll appreciate this in summer), the WiFi actually works throughout the property, and the spa is legitimately relaxing – not just a fancy name for a massage table in a basement. The hammam treatment is the real deal, and after spending hours dodging donkeys and haggling for carpets, you’ll want that kind of reset. The rooftop terrace gives you those classic medina views everyone’s chasing, but it’s also where they serve breakfast, and honestly, starting your day up there with fresh orange juice and Moroccan pastries while watching the city wake up… it’s pretty special. The staff seems to actually enjoy working there, which makes a huge difference – they’ll help you arrange day trips or restaurant reservations without that pushy travel agent vibe. I stayed during shoulder season in April, and the place had this perfect energy level – lively but not chaotic. With a 9.4 rating, you know you’re getting something good, but what surprised me was how genuine it felt. Sometimes highly rated places can feel a bit sterile, but this one maintains that lived-in warmth that makes you want to extend your stay.

  A peaceful escape in a crazy busy city. A short walk to the centre attractions. Riad was beautiful, clean and very welcoming. The team led by Sandrine were exceptional, so friendly, thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble. They organised trips for us and gave great advice. Breakfasts were plentiful and we also enjoyed a couple of traditional evening meals too.

  Our stay was so wonderful! From the moment we arrived and had our welcome mint tea we were looked after so well – the care and attention from the staff is very special. Sandrine has created a delightfully cosy Riad with so many extra touches we really looked forward to going back every evening. Slimane was so attentive and helpful, we felt like we had a personal butler! Ilyass was really friendly and we introduced him to some British food. Sara and Bouchra keep the accommodation looking very clean and made our rooms look so gorgeous – and smelt wonderful!! And the food!! Breakfast every morning had such a great selection – and we had lunch on the day we arrived – chicken tagine – it really was delicious. We wished we had time to have more meals there in the evening as the food was very good. We also really liked the location of the property, just off a busy street (so you can get dropped off right outside) but really peaceful once inside. It is a 10 minute walk to get to the medinas and about 15 minutes to the main square – we thought it was close enough to walk, but just outside the noisier parts. There were 4 of us in our group, all with different ideas of the perfect holiday – and we all agreed this stay at Riad Amya was one of the best places we have stayed – we all want to go back!!!
