You know what struck me first about Riad ANYSSA? The moment you step through that heavy wooden door on Derb Tadla, you’re suddenly in this completely different world – I mean, the contrast is honestly incredible. One second you’re navigating the narrow stone streets of the Kasbah (and trust me, GPS gets confused down there), and the next you’re standing in this gorgeous traditional courtyard with intricate tilework that probably took months to complete.

The location is actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re really staying in historic Marrakech, not just visiting it. You’re literally inside the old medina walls, maybe a ten-minute walk from the Saadian Tombs and super close to the mellah – the old Jewish quarter that most tourists skip but is fascinating to wander through. The riad sits on one of those winding derbs that feels almost residential, so you get to see how locals actually live, kids playing in doorways and neighbors chatting over mint tea. Fair warning though: the streets are narrow enough that you’ll want to pack light or arrange pickup with the hotel, because dragging a massive suitcase over those ancient cobblestones… well, let’s just say I learned that lesson the hard way.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve maintained that authentic riad feel without making you rough it. The rooms have that classic Moroccan design – lots of rich fabrics, beautiful carved wood, those gorgeous geometric patterns everywhere – but the bathrooms are actually modern and the beds are legitimately comfortable. I’ve stayed in riads where the “traditional experience” meant cold showers and mattresses that felt like sleeping on the floor, but ANYSSA gets the balance right. The staff here really knows their stuff too; they’re not just polite, they genuinely seem to care about making sure you understand the neighborhood. Our host spent like twenty minutes showing us the best route to Jemaa el-Fnaa on a hand-drawn map, including which side streets to take when the main souks get too crowded (pro tip: mornings before 10 AM are golden).

The rooftop terrace is honestly where I spent most of my time – you can see across the medina rooftops and catch glimpses of the Atlas Mountains on clear days. It’s the perfect spot for breakfast or just escaping when the souks get overwhelming. The whole place has this calm, almost zen-like atmosphere that somehow manages to coexist with the organized chaos happening just outside the door. Even during the busier evening hours when the calls to prayer echo through the medina, it feels peaceful here.

I mean, it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea – if you need a pool or prefer staying somewhere with easy taxi access, you might want to look in Gueliz instead. But if you want to actually experience Marrakech rather than just visit it, and you appreciate staying somewhere with real character and history, ANYSSA delivers. The 9-star rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s one of those places that just gets everything right without trying too hard.

  Our stay at Riad ANYSSA was absolutely perfect and exceeded all our expectations. The warmth and hospitality of Ali and Yassine were truly exceptional — they made us feel completely at home and safe from the moment we arrived. They helped us with all our questions about the reservation and the city, and always made sure we were comfortable.
  
  The Riad is located in a very quiet area, and it’s about a 20-minute walk to the city centre. For us, who enjoy walking and discovering places on foot, it was the perfect location.
  
  Breakfast was delicious, with traditional bread we were really looking forward to trying. The homemade cake, freshly baked each morning, was amazing. The room was also spotlessly clean, and after a hot day exploring the souks, it was such a treat to come back and cool off in the beautiful pool.

  Riad Anyssa is a charming place to stay and full of beauty – from the main centrepiece area to the rooftop terrace.
  The staff were so welcoming and attentive. Ali went above and beyond to ensure we were catered for in every respect. He organised a timely airport pickup, an evening meal on our late arrival, and guided us with our departure to the bus station for our onwards travels. Yassine was very friendly, and made us feel right at home. He shared some valuable local knowledge of the city's must-do attractions.
  We would highly recommend staying here, particularly if you have never visited Marrakech before and want a comfortable place to stay in a good location in the traditional Kasbar area. This, combined with the complementary "above-and-beyond" nature of the staff, contributed greatly to a wonderful first visit to Marrakech for us.
  
  What could be improved: The breakfast was very tasty, combining traditional Moroccan experience with international pancakes. However, personally I would prefer more nutritious options including fruit and vegetables.
  The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable but it was unusually located right next to the main ground floor foyer, which meant a certain lack of privacy, and we were occasionally disturbed by noise and lighting from the foyer.

  We had a wonderful stay at this charming Riad in Marrakech. The property was spotless, and the attention to cleanliness really stood out. The beds were incredibly comfortable, making it easy to relax after long days of exploring. What truly made the experience special was the staff — they were consistently helpful, friendly, and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The location was perfect: just far enough from the chaos of the medina to be peaceful, yet close enough to reach all the main sights easily. A perfect blend of comfort, hospitality, and tranquility.   The location in the busy Kasbah is lovely. Staff are excellent and will do their best to support. Tourist spots in walking difference. Place is safe. The decor is gorgeous. The place has a lovely community feel. Ordered dinner one night for ease, and that was super tasty.
  
  What could be improved: The location is a little tricky to find at first but this is due to the location. As long as you keep going down the alleyway, you will be fine. Otherwise nothing to fault.

  It was super clean and quiet and our lovely host Lahc en was always around if we needed anything. The terrace was so nice to eat breakfast on and chill and had a little pool to cool off from the sun. The rooms had beautiful personal bathroom. The riad is super accessible, taxis less than 5 min walk and into the centre about 10-20 mins.
  
  What could be improved: Was not really a problem for me but the curtains do let quite a bit of light through.
