Riad Argan Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Derb Zenka Dika – honestly, finding this place is a bit of an adventure since the medina streets basically laugh at Google Maps. But once you push through that heavy wooden door at number 33, it’s like stepping into someone’s beautifully restored family home, which is exactly what a proper riad should feel like.

The thing about Riad Argan is that it gets the balance right between authentic Moroccan character and actually functioning as a comfortable place to stay. The courtyard has this gorgeous fountain that’s not just for show – you’ll actually want to sit there with mint tea in the evening when the call to prayer echoes off the surrounding walls. The rooms are built around this central space (traditional riad style), and I mean, the tilework is stunning without being overwhelming. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays despite being right in the heart of the medina. The walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every donkey cart that passes by at 6 AM, though you’ll definitely still get that authentic medina soundtrack during the day.

The staff here actually knows the neighborhood – not just the tourist spots everyone hits, but they’ll point you toward the little bakery three alleys over where locals get their bread, or tell you which entrance to Jemaa el-Fnaa is closest when you’re ready to dive into that beautiful chaos. Location-wise, you’re maybe a 10-minute walk from the main square, but tucked away enough that you can escape the intensity when you need to. I stayed there during shoulder season and the rooftop terrace was perfect for watching the sunset over the medina without fighting crowds. The breakfast (they serve it in the courtyard) is solid – fresh bread, local honey, good coffee, nothing fancy but definitely hits the spot before you head out to explore. One small thing – the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, but honestly, that might be a blessing when you’re trying to disconnect and soak up Morocco. With a 9.1 rating, this place clearly knows what it’s doing, and after staying there, I get why people keep coming back.

The location was perfect, it is close to the main streets in the Medina but in a quieter neighbourhood.
The room was comfortable, as well as the installations.
They have a small but pleasant pool and a nice terrace.

  • Very pleasant and clean riad perfectly located. – Caroline from United Kingdom – 30 May 2025 (10/10)

Great location right in the Medina, our room was spacious, clean and very functional, and most importantly the bed and pillows were comfortable.
The water pressure was perfect and there were no hot water issues.
Our room was at the ground floor next to the pool and reception, but the other guests were respectful so the riad was not noisy at all (this was my initial concern when booking the room as I did stay in other roads in the past where sleeping was a challenge!).
All the staff was lovely, polite, friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. They genuinely did their best to make us feel comfortable.
The food was fresh and very good, which I didn’t expect despite reading previous reviews. We truly enjoyed both our diner and breakfast there and appreciated that snacks were also available to purchase throughout the day.
The rooftop terrace, although small, is very pleasant and we did enjoy some time there.
Definitely a riad we’ll go back to if we’re ever in Marrakech again.

    What could be improved: Nothing.
