Riad Aventurine Overview

You know what hits you first when you walk into Riad Aventurine? The silence. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the madness of Derb el Cadi Azbezt – and trust me, that little alley gets pretty lively with locals heading to the main souks – but once you step through those heavy wooden doors, it’s like someone hit the mute button on Marrakech. The courtyard just swallows all that street noise.

This place gets the whole riad thing right without trying too hard to impress tourists. The traditional tilework is gorgeous (actually looks hand-laid, not the mass-produced stuff you see everywhere), and they’ve got this perfect balance where it feels authentically Moroccan but your back won’t hate you after sleeping there. The rooftop terrace is honestly where you’ll spend most of your time – amazing views of the Atlas Mountains on clear days, and the staff up there makes mint tea that’s somehow better than what you get at the fancy hotel chains. Plus, you’re close enough to Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can walk there in about eight minutes, but far enough that you won’t hear the drumming all night.

What really sold me on this place was how the owner, Hassan, actually knows the neighborhood. When I mentioned wanting to find a good hammam that wasn’t touristy, he didn’t just point me to the obvious spots – he walked me three blocks over to this local place his family has been using for decades. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t fake. The breakfast situation is solid too (they do this incredible orange and cinnamon pancake thing), and they’ll pack you something to go if you’re doing an early Atlas Mountains day trip. Only minor gripe is that the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms – though honestly, that might be a blessing in disguise when you’re trying to disconnect. The whole experience just feels genuine, you know? Like you’re staying with people who actually care about Marrakech, not just running a business there.

  • Comfortable Riad in the Medina – Scott from United States – 13 June 2025 (9/10)

Staff was friendly and very helpful. Nice roof area and kids enjoyed the small courtyard pool.

What could be improved: The AC in the main part of our room didn’t work well but the unit in the kids room did.

Beautiful kept, extremely pretty, Safia met us just down the street when we arrived, gave us great information & directions, there for every request. Beautiful breakfast, beautiful room in keeping with Medina style & huge bed, perfectly landscaped property

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Beautiful riad with amazing staff – Susana from United Kingdom – 11 May 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful riad with amazing staff. From the start, I was overwhelmed by how much attention and care was given to receiving us. We were served mint tea and given information about the medina, where to go, what to avoid etc. The room was very spacious, clean and had everything that was needed. The room was cleaned every day and the bath towels changed. There is a hairdryer and shampoo and shower gel. No request was too much, our hosts were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was balanced, consisting of coffee, honey yoghurt, pancakes, bread with several jams and a portion of fruit. Had an amazing time here and I would surely come back.

What could be improved: We found 2 cockroaches in the bathroom. They were struggling to stay alive, so obviously, there is pest control being applied. We're in the heart of the medina, so this is not unexpected and really not a problem. You will have bees joining you for breakfast. They are after the honey, so just ignore them, and everything will be fine.

  • Exceptional – Sampaio from Portugal – 21 April 2025 (10/10)

It was a wonderful stay! The Riad is beautiful and the staff is amazing. An experience I highly recommend
We will come back for sure!

  • Very charming riad, just keep your expectations in check! – Krista from United States – 21 April 2025 (10/10)

Just as pictured. Riad had all the charm I was looking for in my first experience in Marrakech. You cannot get here without some walking through narrow alleyways (minimum 5 minutes from taxi drop off), however, so it’s not the right fit for everyone. We had the 2 bedroom suite which was great for our family of 5. One room had a large bed and twin with a small courtyard to sit out on. The other room had two twin beds. They were connected by a living room with a bathroom off to the side. Living quarters required maybe a dozen stairs? AC worked great. Very clean. Maids came every day with fresh towels and to clean up. No television, which was just fine for us. Beautiful rooftop space for us to relax on and several corners throughout the main courtyard to read/relax.

The real shining star of the Riad was the night staff, Soufaine. He was always available, friendly, and helpful. He especially helped us out of a bind and found us a new driver on the day we left when the taxi driver we booked independently wasn’t communicating with us. He took time to explain the area to us and give us some recommendations. We are so thankful!

What could be improved: The one downside to this 2 bedroom suite room, is the stairwell up to your room has a large, open cutout window with the front lobby of the road on the other side. So… you can hear noise from down on the lobby of the hotel (less so when you’re in the bedroom with the door shut) and I was CERTAIN people could hear my kids when they were in our living room.

On the noise front, when you use the “private” courtyard off the larger bedroom there is another room’s door (with shutters) that leads in to the same courtyard. They cannot open their door to the courtyard but can open the shutters for the view of your space (which was awkward to discover their faces first thing in the morning!). It’s also thin enough that you cannot enjoy the courtyard without worrying you’re disturbing the other room with your conversation.

Other things to be aware of- WiFi goes in and out, pool is shallow and cold (we expected this) so don’t really plan on using it, of 4 showers my only warm one was the one I took at night, light breakfast is similar each day with 3 kinds of bread, a yogurt drink, a fruit, coffee, and delicious fresh orange juice (it’s only from 8-10 am; I wish it was offered a bit earlier for those of us catching morning tours), they no longer serve dinner upon request, and the mention of “late checkout of 2pm included in your stay” is inaccurate. You must be out by 11am during high season but you’re allowed to hang out in the common spaces and leave your luggage there until your flight which was very helpful.

All that being said, I would still recommend this Riad to friends coming to the area. The list about of “don’t like” is more for those who like all the details as I do but it wouldn’t discourage me from staying here again.

  • Fantastic place, friendly and helpful staff. – Jennifer from Germany – 5 April 2025 (10/10)

Right in the heart of city, but quiet and roomy spaces.

  • Amazing to see and experience – Leanora from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (10/10)

The Riad was very authentic and I was so glad I picked a Riad rather than a hotel. The staff were amazing. So kind and helpful and took so much time to explain the area and the do's and dont's. Amazing experience. 10/10

    What could be improved: N/A

  • An amazing few days in a stunning city _ I would definitely recommend this riad – Sally from United Kingdom – 16 March 2025 (10/10)

The riad was an oasis of calm and relaxation amongst the business of Marrakesh. Fatima was so welcoming, immediately offering us mint tea in the courtyard underneath the orange blossom. She was very helpful in helping us plan our first few days and with directions. All the staff were happy to help, the room was clean and comfortable and the breakfasts were divine!

What could be improved: Nothing at all!
