RIAD AZRUR Overview
You know what struck me first about Riad Azrur? The silence. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Marrakech’s medina – like, properly deep in there on Derb El Hammam – but once you step through those heavy wooden doors, it’s like someone hit the mute button on the city. The contrast is actually pretty incredible because five minutes before, you’re dodging motorbikes and haggling over dates in the souks, and suddenly you’re in this serene courtyard with the most gorgeous zellige tilework I’ve seen outside of a museum.
The location is honestly perfect if you want the real Marrakech experience without completely losing your mind. Assouel quarter isn’t touristy at all – it’s where actual Marrakchis live and work. You’ll walk past tiny workshops where guys are hammering out metalwork and women selling mint by the bundle, which means you get those authentic moments but also… well, let’s be honest, it can get pretty maze-like. I got lost twice on my first day (thank god for offline maps), but the staff actually gave me a little hand-drawn map with landmarks like “turn left at the blue door” and “right after the bread oven.” The riad itself feels like staying in someone’s beautifully restored family home – because that’s essentially what it is. The rooms have this mix of traditional Moroccan details and modern comfort that actually works, not like some places where they just throw a few lanterns around and call it authentic. The bathroom in my room had this amazing tadelakt finish that felt like silk under your fingers, and honestly, after a day of walking around dusty medina streets, that deep soaking tub was a godsend.
What really sets this place apart though is how the owners – and I think they’re actually often around, which is rare – seem to understand that travelers want to experience Morocco, not just Instagram it. They’ll arrange things like cooking classes with local families or point you toward the hammam that locals use (not the tourist traps). The rooftop terrace gives you those postcard Atlas Mountain views everyone talks about, but it’s also where you’ll end up having the best conversations with other guests over mint tea. Fair warning though – if you’re here during Ramadan, the call to prayer from nearby mosques starts early and it’s… well, it’s loud. But honestly? After a couple days, it becomes part of the rhythm. The 9.5 rating makes total sense when you realize this isn’t just accommodation – it’s like having a local friend who happens to own a stunning riad and wants to share their city with you properly.

Perfect! – Jona from Netherlands – 30 May 2025 (10/10)
My girlfriend and I have traveled a lot around the world, but the experience with Ibrahim at Riad Azrur is the best we’ve ever had. He arranged a taxi and SIM card for us in advance, making it super easy to travel. He was always available for questions — truly a top host! I will never forget this. The best service you can get. Go to Riad Azrur!

Great welcome – the management organised for us to be picked up from the train station and taken to the hotel
They also allowed us to leave our bags from 09.00 and enjoy the city before checking in at 15.00
Great and friendly staff and hosts who helped us lots with wifi, apps and recommendations
Breakfast was lovely and huge – also served beautifully
Room was excellent – best we had found for 2 adults and 2 children – it was one suite but the kids were off in an anti- room so it felt like two separate rooms
What could be improved: It is a little out of the way for the Djmaa el Fnaa square but it is still great for souks and northern MarrakeshWonderful experience – Tome from Slovenia – 7 April 2025 (10/10)
Really fantastic riad, everything was wonderful. Great breakfast and very comfortable beds, the room was also tidied and cleaned every day. Everything was exactly as it should be. I would like to especially highlight the host Ibrahim, who was very helpful and answered every question we had. He was part of the reason we had such a good time in Marrakech.
Thank you so much Ibrahim! – O'leary from Ireland – 7 April 2025 (10/10)
The Riad was beautifully designed with stylish mix of modern and traditional decor. The room was spacious, comfortable and well maintained. The location and accessibility is perfect for a stay in Marrakesh; it is close to all the hotspots yet in a lovely quiet area. Ibrahim stole the show for us! He was attentive, welcoming and incredibly kind throughout our time there. Loved the breakfast. If you can I would recommend the Hammam!
