Riad AZZA Overview
You know what really struck me about Riad AZZA? The moment you step through that heavy wooden door on Derb Cherkaoui, you’re suddenly in this completely different world – and I mean that in the best way possible. The contrast is honestly incredible. One second you’re navigating the narrow, bustling streets of the medina with donkeys carrying goods and vendors calling out in Arabic, and the next you’re standing in this serene courtyard with intricate tilework that probably took months to complete by hand.
The location is actually perfect if you want to experience authentic Marrakech without being right in the tourist chaos. Arset Aouzal is one of those neighborhoods where you’ll see locals going about their daily lives – kids playing in the alleys, women chatting on doorsteps, the smell of tagines drifting from family kitchens. It’s maybe a 10-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa square, but far enough that you won’t hear the drums and snake charmers at night (trust me, this matters more than you think). The riad itself feels like stepping into someone’s beautifully restored family home, which honestly, it probably was at some point.
What I loved most was how the staff – especially Mohammed at the front desk – actually seemed to care about making your stay memorable rather than just checking boxes. He gave me directions to this tiny spice shop that’s been run by the same family for generations, something you’d never find in a guidebook. The rooms have that authentic Moroccan feel with the tadelakt walls and carved cedar ceilings, but they’ve managed to add modern touches without ruining the atmosphere. The air conditioning actually works (not always a given in riads), and the Wi-Fi is surprisingly solid throughout the property. I spent quite a few evenings up on the rooftop terrace with mint tea, watching the sun set over the Atlas Mountains in the distance while the call to prayer echoed across the medina – it’s one of those moments that makes you feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. The breakfast spread was generous too, with fresh Moroccan bread, local honey, and oranges that tasted like they were picked that morning. At a 9.1 rating, this place has clearly figured out how to balance authenticity with comfort, which honestly isn’t easy to pull off in a historic medina setting.

Reviews of Riad AZZA
Great location, clean and welcoming – Guillaume from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (10/10)
Claude was a perfect host and gave us some useful recommendations. We had the smallest room (booked it very last minute) but with a good bathroom. it was actually perfect for 2 nights. An excellent breakfast was served just outside our room at the time we asked. We had a key of the Riad so we were free to come and go as we wished. The place was clean and well kept. There is a nice roof terrace as well. Great value for money!

Stayed here for 3 nights over recent half term. The riad looks better in real life than in the photos! It is calm, clean and the owner was really welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. Our ground floor room was authentically decorated and breakfast was always fresh and delicious. We also enjoyed sitting on the roof terrace for a sundowner 🙂 Would definitely stay here again; thank you, Claude.
