Riad Bjoujna Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of the Kasbah to find Riad Bjoujna feels like stepping into old Marrakech — you know, the version that existed long before tour buses started clogging Jemaa el-Fnaa. The entrance is tucked along Derb Rahala, and honestly, you might walk past it if you’re not paying attention. But once you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that hits you. The traditional riad architecture does its magic here, with that classic central courtyard design that keeps everything cool even when Marrakech is blazing outside.

Location & Neighborhood

The Kasbah district is actually one of those areas where you feel like you’re getting the real deal — it’s residential enough that you’ll see locals going about their daily business, but you’re still within walking distance of the major sights. I mean, the Saadian Tombs are practically around the corner, and you can reach the main medina without breaking a sweat. What I really appreciate is that couples seem to get it — they’ve rated the location 8.8, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about wandering these ancient streets together, especially in the evening when the crowds thin out.

The Rooms & Comfort

Here’s where Riad Bjoujna really delivers — the beds are genuinely comfortable, which isn’t always a given in traditional riads. You know how sometimes authentic can mean “charming but you’ll wake up with a sore back”? Not here. The rooms maintain that traditional Moroccan aesthetic with the carved wood and colorful tiles, but they’ve clearly invested in proper mattresses. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully designed, and the thick walls keep things surprisingly quiet given that you’re in the heart of a bustling neighborhood.

Breakfast & Daily Rhythms

The continental breakfast is served in that central courtyard I mentioned, and it’s one of those simple pleasures that sets the tone for your day. Fresh bread, local honey, mint tea that’s actually properly prepared — nothing fancy, but everything done right. What I like is that they don’t rush you; you can sit there planning your day while listening to the sounds of the neighborhood waking up. It feels authentic without being performative, if that makes sense.

Why Guests Love It

With an 8.4 rating and that excellent location score of 8.7, Riad Bjoujna hits that sweet spot between authenticity and comfort. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Marrakech — instead, it focuses on getting the basics really right. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward the good tagine spots that tourists usually miss. You’re staying in a real neighborhood, sleeping on a proper bed, and you’re not paying resort prices for the privilege. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want from a Marrakech experience.

Hotels near me in Marrakech deliver desert camp transfers, cooking classes with dadas, and sunrise hot-air balloons.

Reviews of Riad Bjoujna

  • Clea, worth the price – Bettina from Germany – 25 May 2025 (7/10)

The room was very nice and clean.

What could be improved: The roof was not so clean. The staff didn’t talk, they are cleaning and preparing breakfast, not a word, recommendation. I asked for a lunch bag instead of breakfast, but they didn’t want to prepare it.

  • Very good – Rachel from Spain – 7 May 2025 (8/10)

Beautiful and clean hotel. It’s maybe 15 min walk from the main square but there’s a lot of food options nearby
The staff was extremely nice, even if we didn’t speak the same languages we could communicate okay. One day we left before breakfast and they made us a little picnic.
    The breakfast was great too

What could be improved: Even if there’s no noise from the road you can still hear a lot of what happens in the other rooms. They don’t give you a key so you need to ring the doorbell every time. It’s a bit annoying when you’re inside (the noise) and one time they were out so we had to wait.

  • Lovely Riad – James from United Kingdom – 4 January 2025 (8/10)

Fantastic customer service! All members of staff were friendly, accommodating and added that little bit of personality.
The cleanliness was exceptional. All areas were cleaned everyday including our room.
The Kasbah in Marrakech is a vibrant and friendly area. The locals made us feel very welcome and looked after. We didn't feel unsafe anytime. I think people knew where we were staying and that felt like a factor. We were close enough to the markets and souks and only needed a taxi to and from the airport. Plus the tea was lovely and the breakfast large and satisfying.

What could be improved: We probably paid a little too much but it was over the new year period and everywhere was quite busy.

  • Superb – Waqas from Luxembourg – 26 December 2024 (9/10)

Amazingly friendly staff, the staff ensured our comfort.
    the location was ok.

What could be improved: We booked the place as we saw the pool and Jaccuzi but the Jaccuzi and pool were not operational, maybe it’s a cultural thing that they don’t use the pool in winters.

  • Very good – Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 18 November 2024 (8/10)

Lovely staff, good breakfast and very clean.

What could be improved: Having no key to the entrance.

  • Superb – Kante-lafoy from France – 3 November 2024 (9/10)

First I loved the fact it was very calm in the riad, like a heaven of peace. Plus the food was absolutely delicious!
The staff was really friendly & welcoming.

  • Superb – Mcgirr from United Kingdom – 19 October 2024 (9/10)

The riad was in an excellent location that was a short walk to all the main sights, the room was beautiful and really clean, the air con in the room was particularly great!

What could be improved: The riad is hidden down some alleyways and is quite hard to find and is quite scary especially if you’re arriving at night, we got approached by a local man who offered to show us where it was who then quickly demanded money from us once we got there.

  • Superb – Yezael88 from Italy – 7 October 2024 (9/10)

The staff was great, great breakfast, nice rooms. We enjoyed both swimming pool and the hot tub on the terrace.

What could be improved: The only minus is if you want to enjoy the swimming pool in the night since there are rooms nearby, we were asked by a mom at 9.30 in the night to practically leave

  • Authentic and beautiful Riad – excellent value of money – Elze from Italy – 2 May 2024 (9/10)

We simply loved this riad for its authenticity, attention to detail, cleanliness, the staff.
We also enjoyed the breakfast in the internal years, which had a pool (we did not use it, but I am sure it is great in the summertime), and seating areas.
Our room was in a different building than the main one where breakfast was served, which also had a separate living room (with TV, chess, etc.) and another seating area.
The room was cleaned thoroughly every morning.
We also had a dinner at our Riad one night, which was excellent (3-course dinner).
In addition to this, the staff was really helpful and friendly – they arranged both transfers to and from the airport, booked the hammam and provided us with all the information needed despite the language barrier).
Thank you so much for this lovely stay!

What could be improved: The only flaw, which could come as a shock at first is the surrounding streets and the difficulty in finding the location – we arrived in the middle of the night and we were approached by a local man, which was a bit scary, but once we got familiar with the location, we liked it. Indeed, this riad is located in the Medina, just in front of the Saadian Tombs and is close to other sights.

  • Beautiful place, but communicating with stuff was challenging. – Aleksandra from Poland – 21 January 2024 (8/10)

Beautiful place, clean, with a taste of history, nice breakfast 👌

What could be improved: The staff doesn’t communicate in English, which caused some challenges. It is cash only. They also have us a receipt for the whole stay with overall price 3 times bigger than the Booking.com said. It took us a while to come into and agreement about the price and explain. There is no ventilation in the rooms, I guess this is common in that part of the town, it is very humid inside and nothing dries.
