Riad Blue Berber Overview
You know what struck me first about Riad Blue Berber? The silence. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the chaos of Jemaa el-Fnaa (maybe a 10-minute walk through the souks), but once you slip through that heavy wooden door on Derb Jdid, it’s like someone hit the mute button on Marrakech. The courtyard has this gorgeous blue and white tile work — hence the name, I guess — and honestly, after navigating those narrow medina streets with a suitcase, sinking into one of their low seating areas felt like a small miracle.
The location is actually perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in the real medina without getting completely lost every time you leave. Riad Zitoun El Kadim is one of those neighborhoods where you’ll see more locals than tourists, which I loved. There’s a tiny bakery about two minutes away where you can grab fresh bread in the morning, and the guys there will remember your face after day two. The riad itself sits on a quiet derb (that’s what they call the small alleyways), so you won’t deal with the constant moped traffic that plagues some of the more touristy riads. Check-in was surprisingly smooth — Mohamed, who runs the front desk, speaks perfect English and actually drew us a little map showing the best routes to avoid the most aggressive carpet sellers.
What really won me over was how they’ve kept the traditional architecture intact while making it actually comfortable for modern travelers. The rooms circle around that central courtyard (classic riad style), and ours had this beautiful carved ceiling and windows that opened onto the courtyard. The bathroom was spacious — not always a given in these old riads — and the hot water was reliable, which honestly matters more than you think when you’re dusty from a day exploring the souks. The rooftop terrace gives you those postcard views of the medina and the Atlas Mountains beyond, and it’s where they serve breakfast. Speaking of which, the mint tea here is legitimately some of the best I had in Morocco, and trust me, I drank a lot of mint tea. The staff clearly takes pride in the place — rooms were always spotless, and they’re genuinely helpful with restaurant recommendations and arranging day trips. I mean, they steered us toward this incredible family-run restaurant in Gueliz that we never would have found otherwise. With an 8.3 rating, it’s not perfect — the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and like most riads, sound carries a bit between floors — but it captures that authentic Marrakech experience without feeling like you’re roughing it.

Reviews of Riad Blue Berber
Cosy stay in Marrakesh's riad in the middle of city – Boris from Slovakia – 8 April 2025 (9/10)
Riad's locality is in the middle of Marrakesh's meddina (old city). The streets aroud are quite busy, inside the Riad's atrium and in the room are absolutly quiet (except twittering sparrows on the trees). Breakfasts were very cosy and fancy. They were served by a madam in front of us on the teracce. Although relatively chilly temperature (up to 28°C), inside the riad was cool, that's why an AC was not necessary to have in the room. The Booking photos of our room correspond to a reality.
What could be improved: In our room it was quite a challenge to set convinient water temperature in a shower. Some one might be dissatisfied with sparrows and their loudly singing (even at 2 am). It's a natural phenomenon.Superb – Pia from Finland – 26 March 2025 (9/10)
Beautiful room with enough space. Super location and easy to access.
Host is very helpful and guests are warmely welcomed. We got so much information on everything!Superb – Fiona220 from United Kingdom – 9 November 2024 (9/10)
Wonderful host who looked after us well with some good advice as this was our first trip to Morocco. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with lots of original features.
Peaceful haven in the midst of the Medina – Stellaarmstrong from United Kingdom – 30 September 2024 (8/10)
Beautiful traditional five bedroom riad in a great location in the Medina but only about 100m from a taxi drop off point and easy to find. We had a large room with a super sized comfortable bed on the first floor. Really quiet despite the very busy location once you stepped outside the front door and nice to have roof terrace space. Breakfast was the usual Moroccan style bread and pancakes with a hard boiled egg served in the central courtyard. Abe the owner was friendly, attentive and helpful if you needed anything. We would stay again.
What could be improved: The AC unit was placed at the opposite end of the room to the bed so didn't seem to cool the sleeping area that much .
There was limited shade on the roof terrace .Very good – Tracey from United Kingdom – 22 September 2024 (8/10)
The Riad was very traditional with lots of interesting little artefacts and corners to relax in.
Abe was a very pleasant and friendly host who made us feel very welcome.
The breakfast was excellent and we were given it at various times to accommodate our excursions.
The room was spacious and for the price, excellent value.
The location was perfect.
What could be improved: The rooftop would be beautiful with a little face-lift, maybe a lick of paint on the furniture and some nice morroccan covers on the furniture.Very good – Rui from Portugal – 3 May 2024 (8/10)
Super friendly staff in great, easy to find location. Nice breakfast,
What could be improved: Room with windows facing the street is a bit noisy, even with ear plugs.Superb – Aurora from Italy – 21 March 2024 (9/10)
The riad is very nice and offer a nice terrace and relaxing areas. The owner and the lady managing the riad were also very nice and gentle. My room was really big and the bathroom was also big and very nice. the position is also very good, 10 minutes from the main square but in a very silent street (which is not common in Marrakech).
Superb – Clea from Portugal – 21 March 2024 (9/10)
Lovely hosts and super location, close to taxi stand and 8min walk from Djema El Fna square. We enjoyed our stay very much, especially because of our great hosts and the lovely decorated room with fresh flowers. Comfortable bed and all facilities we needed to have a super time. Thank you for taking care of us and making our stay in Marrakech perfect.
Great location, good place – Rachael from United States – 9 March 2024 (8/10)
The property is in a great location, close to the Medina. Fairly quiet, comfortable rooms, safe area and dark rooms for sleeping.
What could be improved: Lighting in the rooms was very low, making it hard to see. We weren't in our rooms much but if you like bright lights you will not find it here even with all the lights on. The hot water in the shower was iffy, hard to keep a consistent temperature.A charming riad in the heart of the medina – Areej from Pakistan – 15 December 2023 (9/10)
Nestled in the heart of Marrakech, the riad seamlessly blends traditional Moroccan charm with modern comfort. The staff's warm hospitality and attention to detail enhance the overall experience. While the rooms exude authenticity, some may find them compact. The breakfast served was always delightful and fresh. Special shout out to Mona, who served some amazing msemens! Overall, a delightful stay capturing the essence of Marrakech's allure.
What could be improved: A notable drawback is the lack of proper ventilation and exhaust in the bathroom. This oversight led to discomfort due to lingering odors and increased humidity in the room. However, I made do by opening the bathroom and room windows and placing the small table fan in between.
