Riad Bonheur Overview

So I stumbled into Riad Bonheur completely by accident during my third trip to Marrakech, and honestly? It turned out to be one of those happy mistakes that makes you trust the universe a little more. The place is tucked away on Derb Bouaanane in the Bensaleh area – and I mean really tucked away. You’ll walk past it twice before spotting that discrete wooden door, which is exactly how riads should be in the medina.

The thing about this riad is that it gets the balance right between authentic and comfortable, you know? I’ve stayed in places that were so “traditional” I felt like I was camping, and others so modern they could’ve been in any city. Riad Bonheur sits in that sweet spot where you’re definitely in Morocco – the zellige tiles are gorgeous, there’s actual craftsmanship everywhere you look – but your shower has proper water pressure and the wifi actually works. The courtyard is what really got me though. Most riads have that central open space, but this one has these perfect little nooks where you can hide away with a book, plus the rooftop terrace gives you those classic medina views without the crowds you get at the big hotels.

Location-wise, it’s brilliant if you know how to work the medina. You’re close enough to Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can walk there in about eight minutes (I timed it), but far enough that you’re not dealing with the chaos when you want to decompress. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel – actual families live on these streets, kids playing soccer against ancient walls, women chatting on doorsteps. It’s not the tourist trail, which means you’ll get genuinely curious looks from locals rather than aggressive sales pitches. There’s a fantastic little café about two streets over where the mint tea costs what locals pay, not tourist prices, and the guy who runs it remembered my order by day three. The staff at the riad will give you proper directions too, not just “go toward the square and ask” – they actually know the area and seem to genuinely want you to find the good stuff. I mean, where else would I have learned that the best argan oil comes from the tiny shop near the fountain, or that Thursday mornings are perfect for wandering because most tour groups haven’t arrived yet? It’s that kind of place where you end up feeling like you’ve discovered something special rather than just checking another destination off your list.

  This riad is amazing! First of all the staff is adorable and really helpful. The location is perfect: everything can be done by foot and you can really enjoy every aspects of the Medina. Breakfast was great, the room was clean and comfortable. We’ll book again! A big thanks to the whole team.

  Beautiful riad very close to a main street and easy to find. The room was very clean and spacious and the riad itself it’s beautiful, with a very nice terrace. The host was amazing, super friendly and we felt like at home. The breakfast was delicious!

  Staff were very kind and welcoming. Offered tea on arrival and a lovely breakfast each morning. Kind enough to print off my boarding pass for my flight home too!
  The riad was lovely, the room was spacious, comfortable and clean. WiFi worked well throughout the accommodation.
  Well located in Marrakech, only a 10 minute walk away from the main square and all of the sights.
  
  What could be improved: Only a small thing, communication could be slightly better. When I checked in, I was given tea and didn't see anyone for 45 minutes. Eventually found someone and was given access to my room. Told that it wasn't ready for when I arrived (at the start of the check in window), which is fine, but would have been nice to be told.
  Also there were a couple of occasions when the water supply stopped to the room. Just one of those things and didn't inconvenience me too much, only able to find staff on one of those occasions to let them know, and chatting through booking.com they weren't as responsive, so I guess you need to catch them at a good time.
  
  Only small things, and they would not stop me from staying here again!

  It completed surpassed our expectations. Staff incredibly welcoming and kind, the triple room is great and the location is quite close to everything you’d want to visit. We 100% recommend this Riad!

  Everything! Riad (super guy) met us on arrival and we left our bags as we were early no problem for anything we asked. The rooms were fabulous and comfortable beds, showers and plenty of hot water. Lovely area to relax outside my room with plants and birds singing and another area above to relax in the sun all beautifully decorated in Moroccan style. We met Karima (so charming and friendly)in the morning at breakfast, which was much more than we expected and really enjoyable. We talked and got advice and recommendations and Riad booked a massage for us which you should try (amazing). We were allowed to stay around after check out and we ate lunch (our own) in the perfect surroundings of sunshine and bird song. I would recommend this place and hopefully will be back.
