Riad Chocolat Overview
You know what struck me first about Riad Chocolat? The name isn’t just some cute marketing thing – when you walk through that heavy wooden door on Derb Bouchoua, there’s actually this subtle sweetness in the air that makes perfect sense. It’s tucked away in one of those narrow alleys near Bab Ghemat that you’d never find without GPS (and honestly, good luck getting a taxi all the way there – they’ll drop you at the main road and you’ll walk the last bit through the medina).
The whole place feels like someone’s gorgeous home that they’ve decided to share, which I guess is exactly what a riad should be. The courtyard is where you’ll spend most of your time – it’s got this perfect balance of intimate and airy, with traditional zellij tilework that catches the light differently throughout the day. I mean, I’m not usually one to obsess over interior design, but the way they’ve mixed deep blues and warm terracotta actually makes you want to sit there with mint tea for hours. The rooms wrap around this central space, and here’s something practical – if you’re a light sleeper, ask for one of the upper-level rooms because there can be some echo from conversations in the courtyard, especially during breakfast. Not terrible, just worth knowing.
What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between authentic and comfortable. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting you oriented – they’ll walk you through the maze of streets to the main souks on your first day, which honestly saves you from that inevitable “completely lost in the medina” moment we all have. And the rooftop terrace? Perfect for evening drinks with views over the old city, though it gets pretty busy around sunset (which, fair enough, everyone wants those Atlas Mountain views). The breakfast is properly Moroccan – fresh bread, local honey, those little pancakes – but they’ll also do eggs if you need something more familiar. One small thing that impressed me: they keep the common areas cool without making them feel like ice boxes, which is trickier than it sounds in Marrakech heat. With a 9.4 rating, you’d expect it to be good, but it’s one of those places that actually earns those scores through dozens of small touches rather than one flashy feature.

Reviews of Riad Chocolat
Exceptional – Heidi from Germany – 16 June 2025 (10/10)
I couldn't have wished for a better start to my stay in Marrakesh. The people at Riad Marrakesh were so nice and caring and gave me so many tips and recommendations. They made my stay really special. Thank you so much!
I loved everything, from the delicious breakfast to my lovingly decorated room, the comfortable bed, the details and decorations in the Riad and the roof terrace, where I sat to take a little break from the busy streets of the Medina.
To djemaa el Fna it's a 15 minute walk, but it was so easy to get there and back, so no worries at all. Enjoyed my strolls in the streets!

The Riad is outstanding in the staff took very good care of us. Christine with a lineup a couple of tours that mean our experience extra delightful. Breakfast is great when I felt like we were welcome there.
What could be improved: Like many places in Morocco they only take cash. Wish they would’ve told me that before I arrived so I could’ve pulled money out of my bank in Europe.Exceptional – Andrei from Russia – 9 June 2025 (10/10)
Location, cosy interior with nice atmosphere, big breakfast, very friendly and helpful stuff
Exceptional – Amardeep from United Kingdom – 18 May 2025 (10/10)
The staff were the sweetest most kindest people I met on my trip, very humble and sincere. I met the owners, Eric and Dominique who were very warm, caring and helpful. The Riad is close to the city centre and is safe. The chef Naeema is a God level genius in the kitchen who made me the best tagines I had in Marrakech and Abdul, one of the other staff members is an exceptional professional and a very kind human being, it was a privilege to meet him. Definitely a place to stay if you value a personal touch.
What could be improved: Nothing, it was a very pleasant stay, no complaints at all.Home away from home – Ruby from Australia – 15 May 2025 (9/10)

Exceptional place to stay in Marrakech – Rossella from Belgium – 10 May 2025 (10/10)
Our stay at Riad Chocolat was simply perfect. The rooms are amazing, very comfortable beds, beautiful bathroom, the decoration is beautiful, with a lot of objects that make the place unique. The breakfast was simply delicious. The staff is so kind, we felt like staying at home with family. we also like the location, in a more popular neighborhood, away from the crowded center of the medina. If we come back to Marrakech we will for sure stay there again!
What could be improved: Nothing, everything was more than perfect! The best!!! – Ellen from United States – 10 May 2025 (10/10)
This was probably the best accommodation I have ever stayed at in my life! All of the staff were incredibly, incredibly friendly. It's a small riad, so everything is very personalized. The riad, inside and out, is absolutely stunning. The room was very very clean. It was large and had a connecting private bathroom.
What could be improved: There is not very clear signage for the riad and it is kind of hard to find.Fantastic place and peole! – Daniele from Belgium – 9 May 2025 (9/10)
Friendly and helful stuf, very nice rooms and share places
Superb – Olga from Russia – 26 April 2025 (9/10)
Magnificent oasis in the midst of insanely busy outside world) welcomed by Christine, showed everth, assisted us in every issue all through the stay. Went to the Ourika valley with her help, was great. WiFi doesn't work on the rooftop and also didn't in our room. On day 2nd we realised that this was for the better, managed to switch off ourselves and relax on the rooftop, which was decorated with love to every detail. Merci beaucoup
Absolutely delightful staff – Wai from United Kingdom – 23 April 2025 (9/10)
The staff was absolutely welcoming. Christine waited for us to check in despite us arriving at the riad at 9-10pm and sat down with us with a map to show us the locations of the various locations, recommended restaurants, routes to take, etc. As we hadn't had dinner and had no dirham with us, she took us to a local eatery and loaned us some money without hesitation. She also helped to call our travel agent to confirm our onwards travel arrangements. Other staff members, Abdul and Namia, were friendly and made our stay that much more pleasant.
There is also a nice rooftop garden for guests to just chill after a hectic day exploring the medina.
What could be improved: We had two rooms, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Wifi was a little sketchy on the first floor.
